New Acquisitions - December 2024

@LakeTrout Fitting the magnifier behind the prism scope is NOT the issue. I had already tried it with enough spacing and it still didn't focus. I even just positioned a different magnifier (3x Holosun) at the SAME distance I have that from a red dot on another upper. Still no-go behind the prism scope. There's something about how these are made that's preventing a magnifier from working.

At this point, I'm just going to run the prism positioned where it's comfortable to use and use it as a 1x. Since this is going on a short 5.56 upper, it's not like I'm looking to do precision shooting with it. Not sure how much I'd use it at 100 yards, probably be 50 yards and less. Which is about all I can do with 1x optics these days.

Interesting. That’s too bad, there are a lot of 3X magnifiers that work just fine with prism optics. But I agree, less than 100 id probably just go 1X. Honestly, with my eyes I like 3X at 75 and above for hitting targets. But I think that if it were for any kind of combat, 1X is good to go for out to 100.

Besides the 3x Holosun, I tried a 5x Sightmark magnifier. I might reach out to Swampfox to see if they have a list of magnifiers that DO work with the optic. I'd like to have at least a 3x magnifier to use with the optic. It would match the capability of the Trihawk I also got.

update: Sent Swampfox a message asking about using a magnifier with the Raider. Also asked if any work with the Blade. Will see what they come back with.

There’s a 3X primary arms that’s a bit longer. It’s not the super small lightweight one. But that one comes back toward your eye a bit more and gives much better eye relief. Id recommend giving that a shot.

I grabbed the slx1x prism with the 3x magnifier from primary arms. The only thing I could do is put the magnifier in front of the prism. Yes I did the diopter adjustments. Super clear, a bit small prism. I'm curious if it's better to just get the slx 3x. My juliet5 in my opinion is way better magnifier

That’s odd. I have a good amount of time behind the 1X prism and both the 3X micro magnifier and the 3x full size from primary arms. They’ve both worked great for me. Maybe it depends on your eye sight? They were both mounted behind the optic and I had no issues getting them to focus. I’m able to hit steel with that combo at 400 yards which is the max that the reticle is designed for.

I will say that the 3X microprism is a slightly better option for that distance. The sight picture will be brighter and slightly more clear. It’s easier to make hits at that distance with it. And I honestly don’t find it hard to adjust to sub-100 yard shooting with it either. Makes for a nice light weight all around setup that’s pretty robust too.

I hope the next item on my watchlist ends up here [bow]
1914 Erfurt Lange Pistole 08 "Artillery", unfortunately re-blued.
Only 23.000 were made by the Royal Prussian Arsenal and those were made only in 1914.
DWM made 151.000 of those; mine are all matching and unmolested 1916 and 1917 specimens.

Picked up one of these, I am always a sucker for a handy lever action.

Today, I stopped at Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine. They had many, many lever guns in the rack and behind the counter. Blued, stainless and color case hardened. All kinds of calibers. Winchester, Rossi, Browning, Henry and Marlin. Some of the rifles had "used" tags on them but looked brand new.

I have no connection with KTP. Just a customer. The new Maine 3 day waiting period is a PIA but saved me from buying something today.

Picked up the two Sharps Bro's Livewire lowers ordered this afternoon from Northeast Munitions. Paperwork went through easy too.

Sample pic of what was in the boxes (one of two identical lowers):

Forgerd 7075 but machined to look billet. Plus ambi bolt release hardware all included. One will be colored to match my AR15 pistol uppers. The other is for my 6.5 Grendel upper to mate to. So that I can finish that build.

My favorite manufacturer. All but 3.5 of my builds are their products

OK: Deal has been cancelled and I've got a full refund.
Stay tuned for the January acquisions thread. I'll be on the road tomorrow returning with at least one, maybe two new-for-me items.

As opposed to the original description she has been re-blued, which was stated the day before the aution ended.
My fault, to not look at the descriptiojn before dropping thr hammer, but the seller offered to cancel and refund, when I mentioned it.
