Picked this up recently for USPSA competition, try my had at shooting in Open after a season in Production. Approximately 10yo SV Infinity chambered in 38Super. When it arrived it had the 38SC breachface installed but I got a deal on some 38Super brass and the guy included that breachface and extractor in the deal so I swapped them. Had a feed issue or two before I figured out I had the wrong damn extractor installed, been nearly flawless in practice sessions since. Still need to get a few more mags but this'll get me started....

Breechfaces come in slightly different dimensions (even with the same caliber), and it's not generally advisable to just "buy one" and hope it works, but to have the factory fit one properly (about a $60 part). In fact, if you know someone who will be going to the factory for a few days near the end of Q1 or early Q2 2012, you might want to try to talk him into taking your slide with him to have the super breechface checked and replaced/refit if necessary.

ps: I know the OP know is, but those are STI mags with that SVI.

Luckily the previous owner was wise in the ways of the SV and sent the gun down to have the SC face fitted; the Super was the one that was fit when the gun came from the factory new or so I was told. depending on the timing I might still try and talk someone who would be headed there anyway into bringing the slide along for a quick checkup....

yup, I'd prefer to be running all SV tubes but the gun came with STI and used SV tubes are fetching a kings ransom right now so it is what it is...I'll replace them with the SV as I go along, figure I need to get at least one more big stick and two 140s to be comfortably outfitted for matches. fit n finish on this gun is amazing, coming from the world of off-the-shelf factory carry guns it really is eye opening to fire this thing

As a matter of personal preference, I think you made a good move getting a carbon steel gun (most of my SVIs are blued or plated carbon steel). Carbon steel (4140 on older SVIs, 4340 on current production) stays "tighter" longer, although the difference can be reduced you have a stainless gun by keeping the rails wet. The difference in metalurgical characteristics is why, last time I checked, SVI was using blued extractors in all guns, even the stainless ones.
