For my birthday, I decided to find a way to get the rifle I've been lusting after for a long time... So, I got a tavor. [smile]

Getting a Tavor in Massachusetts is way easier said than done. The rifle by default is not AWB compliant. Luckily there's no "stock" so there's no worry about it being collapsible, but work still needs to be done. We have that super killy and nasty threaded barrel to deal with... It was surprisingly hard finding a gun shop anywhere near Boston that was willing to order a Tavor, none would. Then getting one to agree to accept receipt of the rifle and pin a brake on for any reasonable amount of money took a few months of screwing around waiting to hear back from distributors at various closer shops, I ended up ordering one myself and having it delivered to an LGS that was recommended to me, New England Shooters Warehouse, I ordered the brake/comp myself and had it shipped there as well.

yDBPfXIh.jpg This is a YHM Phantom YHM-28-5M1 comp/brake that was installed and pinned by Cas and the great staff at New England Shooters Warehouse. The rifle also comes with an evil 30rd mag, which they replaced with a new 20rd that was pinned to be a 10rd capacity mag (nice touch).

Now, some barrel porn. :)

This is a cold hammer forged, 5.56 NATO 1:7 barrel imported from Israel:

Now a quick range report: This gun is easy to shoot well. After fighting a bit with the iron sights, I got them zeroed and then I threw on a new Vortex Sparc with the AR height mount and zeroed that. The gun has so little recoil, especially with the YHM brake, I was able to keep all of my shots on paper at 25ish yards while maintaining a sustained, but controlled, rapid fire of 2 20rd mags.

And to close, here she is all cleaned up. Qiy6Nloh.jpg

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the integrated flip up BUIS are kind of wonky... So I put on a Vortex Sparc with the AR height mount, seems to cowitness nicely.

i played with a tavor at acme on saturday and despite the small size... it fit me OK. i've found the SCAR-L just didn't fit me, which is a disappointment considering how hard i love them, but the tavor would be a good option, and lady atilla really liked it. fit her GREAT.

Your car couldnt handle all that freedom eh?

salt and shitty MA roads. the original battery couldn't handle the freedom and died the 2nd day up in NH.

with how close it was to letting go, i am honestly surprised i have not died in a car crash yet. i wasn't exactly crawling through curvy back roads while exploring my new stomping grounds.

How much did everything set you back? How much was the Tavor, Pinning, etc.?

Tavor was $1850 on GB, brake was like $40ish after shipping and taxes (YHM is in Mass), $30 for the transfer at the shop, I don't remember how much they charged to do the pinning, it was inexpensive.

Nice score! Was the seller on GB a FFL or an individual? Tricky finding people willing to play ball with MA. If you could, mind steering me in the right direction - shoot me a PM.
