Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the forum but I wanted to share my first rifle.

It's a Sig Sauer 716
-7.62 NATO
-Short stroke piston driven
-Rotating bolt
-Semi auto

AND WORST OF ALL...
Fully Massachusetts AWB Compliant

It's black with OD green accents. I would rathered an FDE or all black one, but the gentleman I bought it off of gave me a great price and became a good friend, so I'm not complaining. I haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet because I just got it a week ago and am pretty busy with school work :/.

I got the stock pinned, bayo cut off, and the flash suppressor destroyed and pin and welded at State Line Guns Ammo and Archery in Plaistow NH (meh @ their gunsmith). I am leaving the sights that are on it alone for now. I want to shoot with it a little bit. The only experience I have with optics are ACOGs in the Marines, and I am a bigger fan of iron sights over the ACOG. I threw a bipod that I had laying on there and I ghetto rigged a one point sling. I'm waiting for a QD sling adapter to be shipped ($55 in store or $10 online, easy decision) so it isn't ghetto. Will probably be adding a flash light to the right side rail in the near future. This is how my M4 was set up and I liked it like that. I never had a pressure-activated flash light though, I was considering getting one and mounting the pressure switch on the left side of the lower receiver near the top rail. This is because when I shoot short distance, I hold the magazine well instead of a foreward grip. The pressure switch would be located right near my thumb. This seems more convenient to me than needing to reach toward the end of the barrel to turn the flashlight on or off. No other plans right now. A friend suggested that I get an extended charging handle and a different grip, but I'm going to test it out as is before I make those purchases.

Thanks to all the guys around the forum that posted information that I needed to make sure I was following MGLs.

Thanks for looking :)!

Looks nice. I would say pull the pictures from facebook and host them somewhere like Photobucket so you can directly post them up here. There are a lot of guys here that don't do the fb thing. Also nice to hear someone with real world experience that likes irons over an ACOG.

Sig makes a great rifle I have a 516 piston ar and it is a awesome weapon. The piston system runs the cheapest steel ammo with no fouling at all. Congrats well to NES

He doesn't need to...

I still don't have anything that fires 7.62 and I would like to.

Thanks for the compliments and welcomes everyone! I probably should have started my 'collection' with a more conservative rifle, but eff it - go big or go home, right?!

Thanks for the advice, will do.
Yeah, it's a personal opinion. Some guys loved when the Marines made ACOGs mandatory for the rifle range and stuff. Yeah, it's cool that it magnifies so it's easier to see the target, but that is the reason I don't like it. At a distance it is cool, but for close range, combat applications, I'd rather the wider field of view.

What does it take for mags?
The SR-25 style magazines - it comes with an SR-25 20rnd 7.62x51 PMAG (which I was unable to retain in MA, even though I wanted to block it before I brought it into my state). I'm not sure, but I think I can use steel 10rnd SR25 mags, or at least I hope I can because Magpul has not yet manufactured 10round 308 mags.

Thanks for the info. I hope the 716 works as well as your 516 does. Did you notice a "break in period" in which you received some malfunctions, or was it flawless from the beginning?

Thanks, I didn't even think to embed, will do!
I honestly never shot a rifle like this that fires 7.62. I fired an M240 many times, but that's a light machine gun. I'll let you guys know how it is as soon as I get some time to hit the range!

tight like prom night man!

That's an awesome expression!

A small family photo...NOT one item of which is or ever will be MA compliant

That is quite a lovely family you have there. lol one day I will get away from this communist state and can have "real" guns. I walked into a gun store in NH (won't mention which but you can probably figure which one) and they have a "One Big Ass Mistake America" sticker outside their shop. I complimented them on it when I was in there, but mentioned that I was surprised at their boldness. One guy (jokingly) said, "This place is almost like America, something about freedom. We can do that stuff here." I didn't know what is was like living on the other side!

Congrats man! Now consider tossing a few extra bucks to 'go green'. You'll be glad you did! You will be in good company! :)

Thanks for the welcome and the advice, will do it shortly, probably once finals are over. Seems to be the cool thing to do now-a-days and I give into peer pressure!
