New Online Firearm License Application System

I mailed in our non-resident renewals today.

Curious how this plays out. Hopefully it will expedite the process for all towns as well as non-residents.

I have a feeling this is just the beginning and it will eventually have forms for non-residents to register their guns according ti the new laws.

Agreed, I can't help but feel like this is registration portal 1.0

I was wondering the same thing. Especially with IT stuff it seems like MA is perpetually stuck in the past. IF they followed the law on RFPs, bidding, and awarding contracts, I'd expect this to take well over a year from start to finish.
My understanding is that this project was underway a year ago, and they were proudly getting ready to launch for summer...

What is the data? Just licenses / dates?

What is "all data"? Renewals? FA10?

I don't have to renew for a few years so won't create an account.

Yes, just FID and LTC issue dates and expirations.

There is the ability to retrieve your PIN, and to submit an address change also.

Why the kentucky fried fsck would you decide to turn your right into a privilege, and put it at the whim of the local PD?

What are you going to do if the underpaid, underqualified goober on the other end of the phone says 'Yeah, I don't know anything about that - don't believe everything you read online.' ?
well ill call wpd anyway and see what they say, it tough being a gunowner here in ma, i have to play along with the pd if i want to keep the few guns that i have(2a in this communist state of ma is dead).if the local cop said no then ill call the state cop to see wtf going on with the webpage.

Not so if they already have maintenance and update contracts in place - smaller changes just get charged to a pre-expended small contract.
I'm assuming the state has similar fast response contract avenues as federal does for common services needing quick turn around.

This will be my final comment on the matter.

Please don't make things harder for yourself. ACTUALLY FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO USE THE STATE WEB PORTAL.

And please understand your rights, even in Mass, in the post Bruen era.

Not certain how this correlates to my post so assuming you meant to quote someone else.

But I do concur - take advantage of the portal to force the acceptance of your application into MIRCS.

If the local police refuse to accept payment then go to the town clerk and make payment directly then retain the receipt.
No more hoping to get an appointment before expiration.

I created my account a week+ ago. They have all my licenses (LTC, dealer, gunsmith, ammo) going back to the beginning. BUT they dont have my machine gun license (current or previous). Hmm.
I had the trio of dealer, ammo, gunsmith back in the later 80s, none of them show on my account, they doi show my past LTCs and my FID dated from 1984 to 1999 (it was a forever FID). I didn't think they would have the dealer stuff, now I'm wondering why it's not there.

So is everybody scrambling to set up accounts and get into this thing?
No need to scramble if you don't want to but it now is the proper method to apply or renew
1 - Takes the police department appointment out of application entry process
2 - You now set the start of the 40 day timeline (more on this later)
3 - Gives you immediate status on an application in process

40 days - yes, I know there are no teeth in the Mass law forcing adherence to the mandated timeline.
However the state has drawn a line in the sand as to what a reasonable timeframe for issuance is and that is 40 days from your application. Police departments will no longer be able to delay by simply not accepting appointments.
This gives us the data reporting necessary to use Bruen's footnote 9 dicta to move against the entire license requirement.

Have you ever dealt with MA contracting?

Not so if they already have maintenance and update contracts in place - smaller changes just get charged to a pre-expended small contract.

Seems to work, but really, do they have to make the temp password and pin so complex?
They should be making it complex and requiring better passwords to protect sensitive information.

Pretty impressive.
It's not really all that impressive of an update and should have been done a decade ago.
