New XDm coming out

I will be honest, I don't follow the XD line anymore, living in MA and all, but didn't they already come out with the XDm45 that wasn't much more then the regular XD45?

Man I wish I would have bought that XD45 before I moved home.

They did come out with the xdm .45. It looks really nice in bitone.

Im going to guess the new xdm is the compact version. I hope its not as blocky as the regular xdc.

how much would it cost for testing?
The testing is similar to the testing required for CA. So the extra cost over CA compliance is not that great. But, it certainly isn't cheap. There are only a couple testing labs in the country that do this.

Not to derail the topic, but I would think that after a year of sales they'd be back out on top. I would imagine their reluctance also has a lot to do with the hassle (and principle of the matter).

Also, the last I heard, there were no 10 round magazines available for the XDm. Without 10 round mags, it is worthless in CA and MA.

Springfield could certainly afford to pay the money. But that's not the only hurdle. They would also have to increase the trigger weight to over 10 lbs to meet the AG's regulations. And then there is all of the uncertainty around the AG's regulations themselves, all for a market that it is very small. How many XDms could they expect to sell in MA?

Springfield basically wrote off MA a long time ago.

SA wrote off MA and CA, at least with the XDm. There are NO non-large capacity magazines available for the XDm, and it even says right on the hard case "ILLEGAL IN CA" (or something like that, I don't have it in front of me). Which is a shame, because they are great pistols (except for the grip safety).

From JayG's blog:
http://stuckinmassachusetts.blogspot.com/2010/05/cost-of-doing-gun-business.html

I've asked SA about getting things certified here, they basically just respond with "meh, Mass sucks and we don't want to play ball"

That was a nice little insight into the process. But it made my head hurt.

The handgun in question must be submitted to the Firearm Testing Lab. Three units are to be supplied, and all three are destroyed after testing. The fee for this testing is $2,500, plus approximately $600 in ammo.
The legal fees that accompany this testing are approximately $2,000

$5G's doesn't sound prohibitively expensive if you're a manufacturer. The $600 in ammo is ridiculous. The fact they destroy the guns after testing is insulting.

The testing isn't the real problem. (I'm not agreeing with it, just stating it's not a big deal in relative terms here) It's the AG's office. Everyone knows their gun will pass the tests, unless they're like one of those junk gun companies. The problem is you can pay all that money to get a gun tested and not be able to sell it if the AG's office c-blocks you on the back end via CMR940, which are ARBITRARY standards not strictly defined in the regulation. Every current indication on the ground is, that if you're selling a striker fired auto, the AG's office is going to have a "thing" for you.

This is not entirely correct. The XDm 9mm has no 10 round magazines for it and takes different magazines than the XD. Now, the XDm in .45acp does take the same magazines at the XD in .45acp and there are 10 round magazines that exist for the XD, therefor you can put them in the XDm and be in the clear. I have not looked into the .40 myself because I do not shoot that caliber so I cannot speak to if you can get 10 round magazines for it.

So in short, there are no non-large capacity magazines that with int he XDm 9mm, but there are non-large capacity magazines that work in the XDm .45acp, and I have no idea about the XDm .40.

I have a XD .40 and love the thing. My next purchase is going to be the XDm 9mm and the 45acp. I personaly would shoot one over a Glock any day.

it definitly looks better spec wise vs a glock 36 but id imagine having a 1' across backstrap making the recoil even sharper than a gun with a wide backstrap to disperse the recoil energy onto more hand space , i can see this gun putting the hurt on your hand.

its nice, its smaller in most specs, but im on the fence, kinda like i was with the walther pps, but at least the pps was forgiving with its 9mm caliber .

i'll have to go hold onto one.

i really like the look of it and why is this not MA compliant? wish it was

Springfield refuses to submit ANY of their guns for testing. So until the regs fall, you won't see them at dealers here, generally speaking.
