At the risk of offending someone, I suggest that the four rules could be simplified down to one rule, as follows:

Engage you brain before picking up a firearm and keep your brain engaged the whole time that you are holding a firearm.

So... is that to say that we should treat you as always drunk, or we should treat you, so that you remain drunk? (^_^)

Unfortunately, there IS NO simple safety statement. If firearms had a simple answer, we would not have all the issues we do. This is why training is very important. We have a lot of people in this country who can shoot. But there is a HUGE difference in knowing how to shoot and knowing how to use a gun as a tool for a particular purpose. Even hunting has far more to do with other skills than knowing how to shoot.

Only an idiot would believe there is no reason to train further.
