P220 or HK45

I just know when I tried to use the 10 on the USP .45 and the USP .40 things felt ****y and weird, and I had light strikes with some kinds of ammo.

interesting because on the HK forums it looks like the people who encountered issues it was mostly with the USP 45. i can't think of any reason for this as they all use the same OEM hammer springs, unless there's something dimensionally unique about the USP 45.

i'm going to hold off on calling the 10# hammer spring truly "reliable" until i put another 1k rounds of various ammo, especially stuff w crappy russian primers.

Man thats tough, Iam partial to Sigs because I own a couple & have shot almost every one they make. But I got turned on to H&K last year, I have shot a few different models & loved them. But I still think I would buy the Sig.

I get that. The P220 and HK45 really do ooze quality. The thing is, however, I really don't like shooting either of them. The HK45 trigger guard/trigger beat the hell out of my trigger finger. The P220 is a great target shooter, but I'm done with DA/SA for any other use, and the whole Sig high bore axis thing seems outdated and unnecessary. But, realistically, if I'm going to shoot .45 at targets, the 1911 design beats everything out there. I'll probably trade or sell my P220 for this reason alone. So, if I were choosing a .45 for anything but paper punching I would go with the M&P or Glock. For target shooting, a 1911 would be first choice. All just my taste, of course. In actuality about 99% of my pistol shooting is with a 9mm Glock.

I can't argue with that logic.

Yeah, which is why I was struggling over this. Not that the HK is not worth its normal going price, but I was thinking that BOTH were a good value at their respective prices(800 vs 500). So I wanted to hear some other people's rationales and see if there was a clear consensus.

Can you get an HK45 for $800? I got mine for like $750 but that was when HK had the $200 rebate. Not sure how to get that price today, they're usually $950.

I love my W. German P226, never shot the P220 but it feels great in hand with the single stack grip.

If this is a home defense gun, I think the 10 round HK w/ rail makes more sense, that's what I use mine for. If it's just for the range, maybe the Sig, I'd guess it's a bit more accurate - my P226 is my most accurate pistol. Trigger is better on Sigs in general too.

So why'd I get the HK? It just feels incredible in hand, and the engineering is great. I love it, and the trigger is better than the P series HKs.

Agreed as well, on most counts. Part of it kind of is I have a striker fired polymer gun that I love and can fire 45 when I want it to. It ends up that I just like having some variation in calibers, brands etc. Keeps me interested and not bored. I tend to carry a particular manual of arms and form factor(and would probably not carry either of these) so these would be just for range fun and occasional gratuitous fondling. Frankly, I can't even explain why some things catch my eye.

I don't have a 1911 yet, admittedly. That bug hasn't bitten me yet, someday I'm sure, just not there yet.

For gratuitous fondling it's definitely the HK45 - it's beautiful, the Sig just can't compete. I love my P226 but it's much more functional than beautiful.

If this is just a barbecue/****-off kind of gun with no distinct purpose then just save up more money and get a MK23 and be done with it. [laugh] At least if you ever tire of it you will get nearly all your money back.

You just described about everything I own that isn't a AR-15 or 9mm Glock... Need to clean out the safe. Then again, love the .22s. Got some nice shotguns. Can't lose the bolt guns... This is how things pile up!
