I live in Southern New Hampshire and just want a place to fire my Mosin Nagant outdoors. Everywhere I look seems to require a $200 initial membership, which I can't really afford. I'm willing to drive, if only I knew someplace to fire this thing outdoors. Any advice? Thanks

Just as fishermen won't give away their secret fishing holes, people who have secret shooting pits won't let that information out either, and for the same reason.

That is a cynical way to look at it. First of all, with fishing, you are talking about a limited supply/resource (the fish). I'm talking about either official or unofficial plots of land that are safe and legal for shooting a gun for a few hours a month (at most).

I also don't expect anyone with a super secret location to divulge it to me... which is why I didn't ask for secret pits, but rather any place that could be recommended to me in general.

There are plenty of clubs in NH with initial dues under $100. You just have to look a little harder.

A sandpit can easily become a limited resource too (space) - think of a sandpit that's good for 5 people to shoot side by side...and now think about 30 people showing up every day to that sandpit because it was posted on the internet.

Pretty crowded - not fun or impossible to shoot anymore....

What happens is the word gets out and irresponsible people start using it. The crap they pull and the trash they leave behind causes problems and before long posted signs go up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you would trash the place. I'm saying that eventually the place would get trashed. I've seen the place on Nantucket where people go to shoot near the airport -- trash, cartridge casings, and shotgun shells everywhere. It is terrible.
