I'm looking for suggestions/advice on pocket carry guns. I currently carry a kahr mk9 in an iwb holster. This works great for the most of the time, however my job (I'm an electrician) involves too much bending, kneeling, twisting, standing on ladders, etc. for me to feel completely comfortable that I'm not printing. Lately I have been pocket carrying the mk9, but its heavy and it doesn't fit in my jeans pocket only in cargo pants. So I'm in the market for something smaller/lighter/more suited for pocket carry. At this point I'm thinking even a seecamp 32 or a similar gun is preferable to carrying nothing at all. Your opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I am an electrician as well and with wearing a tool belt all day Iwb holsters don't work for me I carry S&W 642 in the cargo pocket on my pants in a cheap uncle mikes pocket holster. Sometimes if I am going to be in attics or crawl spaces or anywhere else where I might be upside down or in strange positions I lock it up in the truck. Thats the best way I have found so far and I have been in the trade for 12 years.

I carry a 642 in a pocket holster when wearing shorts or when when khakis. I bought a cheap holster I really like from Tuff. It holds the gun plus a strip of 5 rounds. It works great in larger pockets like cargoes. Not sure I would wear it in jeans though.

I carry a Bodyguard 380 with a Nemesis pocket holster. Fits nice in my front right jeans pocket. Doesn't really print and I can wear it all day and forget its there.

Get a good pocket holster for the MK9 and wear pants that have bigger pockets.

The 642 is a fine gun, but bigger than an MK9. If he can't fit an MK9 in his pocket, he won't be able to fit a 642 either.

I wanted a gun that would shoot 357 mag for carry, but also at the range without eventually cracking the frame, so I went with a Model 60.

I don't know just how prevalent the frame cracking issues with the airweights are, but they seemed (from teh internets) to be prevalent enough to make me concerned. I knew I would be shooting this thing pretty consistently at the range, with 357 mags, so I wanted something that was capable of that.

If I owned more guns and didn't need to shoot my pocket carry as part of my fun, I would definitely get a 642 or other airweight to save weight. As it is, though, the model 60 is really not that bad to carry. nice little gun in a pocket holster. I was looking for something I could shoot SA too.

Eventually I definitely do want to get a hammerless airweight. I think I am in to revolvers for carry. I guess I'm just not feeling like I need firepower so badly that I need something with more rounds and if I do I can always throw the sig in the crossbreed and deal with that.

was carrying a 442 in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster..switched to a Glock 33 in an Uncle Mike's size 4 pocket holster.
I wear either khaki's or jeans, don't have a problem with either.

An M60 is a good choice IMO, in its original .38 spl it was the original stainless revolver, now upgraded for .357 with a slightly larger frame. If "firepower" is an issue, when you can afford it, why not carry two J frames? The "New York Reload" is still the fastest reload under most conditions [wink]

my electrician carries a small .38 wheel gun and left it on my kitchen counter while he was wiring for my new dishwasher...
not sure if he does that with every customer though ;)

i carry a 638 in an uncle mikes pocket holster strong side front pocket. works great for me, i sometimes have to pat my pocket to make sure i still have it, cause it carries like it isnt there.

I have a Smith 360PD and it's less than 13oz unloaded. With low recoil loads it's manageable. I'm sure a steady diet of 125's will kill it eventually, but mine has showed no signs of wear after the first few hundred rounds. I shoot it well enough to trust my life to it. I'd love to be able to carry my Sig everywhere but in the summer it's hard for me to pull off, being so skinny.

It works great in the pocket if you can get pants that fit correctly.

I keep mine in a smart carry. I would use pocket carry, but my pockets are usually full, and I can crawl around and not have to worry about retention or printing.

That being said, if you're not comfortable shooting some of the most fiercely recoiling handguns available, maybe you should just get a smith 642, should be less than $400 new, and load it with the old 158Gr nylaclad load. You would not be underarmed at all.

I'd advise to stay away from mousegun calibers. Simply not enough energy IMHO. And the FBI agrees.

I use either a J frame .38 or a Seecamp .32. WRT the Seecamp, from what I can tell with the research I did before buying, people love them or hate them. They are very ammo fussy. No FMJ RN ammo, hollow points or WWB flat nose stuff. (Anything 0.91" OAL or less IIRC) I personally like mine, and have had no problems with it. I have heard the .380's are a little beast of a gun to shoot.

This is my favorite pocket carry, functions every time. Also I nail a pie plate at 7 yards which is what this gun is for personnel protection. Check out the Seecamp forum, Larry Seecamp has a great following.

If you ever a problem he will make it right, and he checks the forum so he is easy to get a hold of it's like speaking to the C.E.O. but he's a gunsmith.

My S&W 36 and model 60 were snappier and more painful to shoot than my P3AT. But then that's my experience and opinion and worth less than you paid for it.

Like some others here, I've gone with a J-Frame. Model 442, no lock (yay! you can get the 642 without the lock too I think). I was using an Uncle Mike's pocket holster but have switched to a Remora. Disappears into a pocket.
