When I first started reading here at NES I came across a poster who talked about this exact thing. I believe the phrase "lizard part of the brain" was used, and how people ignore or override the little voice that says "something's not right here." I try to be more alert now to what's going on around me.

It's what my old man used to mean when he'd say "Pull your head out of your a$$."
