PTR-91

Shoot on before you buy because it has some unique features. I had one that I sold a couple years ago, I actually regret selling it.

Pros:
Very reliable
Very accurate
Mags are still pretty cheap
Great value (vs an "real" HK)
Great looking rifle (IMO)

Cons:
Pretty decent recoil ( a lot more than my SOCOM 16 for example)
Non-chrome lined barrel
Heavy trigger
Chews up brass

I heard a lot of bad things about it before I purchased. I had my doubts but bought it anyway. It's one of the best rifles I own. It's easy to clean, very accurate when shooting and lots of fun shooting it. I remember taking it to the range my first time. Everyone looked at me trying to figure out what type of gun it was. All their saw was an evil all black rifle. When I put a few rounds down range, a crowd appeared behind me. Everyone was like what the hell was that? Very impressive rifle. I wouldn't part with it for a million bucks.

This. If you get one, get a brass buffer to save your brass from being destroyed, a spare parts kit (especially the extractor!), get a trigger job from Williams's Triggers, and consider getting a buffer-tech recoil buffer (takes some of the "buck" out of the recoil).

I like mine a lot. I had one with a 16 inch barrel and sold it to get the one with the longer barrel. The previous one didn't like ammo with the tar sealant like the south African ammo. Also didn't cycle properly with some German because they were underpowered. It worked great with Winchester, Privi, Wolf, Radway Green (surplus). I have also used the fully auto G3 and HK11 in the past. Personaly I like the recoil as is. They also sell rails for it and claw mounts if you want to scope it. The rails I would go for those B&T style mounts or an actual B&T mount ($200) or cheaper than dirt stocks the Hensoldt scope with the mount from time time. If you want to go the acog road then get a trijicon mount. But then you get an optic that is as much as the rifle.
Accuracy has been good for me. I don't use it for matches or anything. A member here is selling one for $1,200 if you are a green member. The price is really good in my opinion. Also Four Seasons in Woburn sells them at a great price.

Anyway good luck with your decision. People either like them a lot or can't stand them.

Yeah that's me selling it :)

I really like the PTR but I just don't get to shoot it all that much and I just spent a ton of money on an ACR so I'm looking to sell it. Let me know if you're interested and we can work something out.
