I Friday I ordered two LPK's from http://www.rangersales.com. Today they refunded my money and said orders are all beng cancelled and no new online orders until January 15. Supply must be really bad, so bad that companies are throwing away sales. Wow!

If they gave you the option of back ordering, they could get stuck selling to you at a price below market for items in short supply. This may not be "throwing away a sale", but a move designed to optimize profit by reneging on committed orders.
Back in the early 80's, it was not unheard of for sellers to try to get out of purchase & sales contracts on their house, since the market was moving so fast the buyer was actually paying less than "current market" once the papers were processed and payment made to the seller. This smells the same.
If you doubt this is what's happening ask "will you backorder instead of refunding my money" and if the answer is no, ask "will you honor the price for the order you accepted but are cancelling when I re-order on January 15".
