Red dots

Rant on...

I don't have one as new as the CompM4 but have 5 units of the various generations of Aimpoint Comps, one going back as far as 20+ years and they've been the only dot sights to consistently fail out of the probably 2 dozen misc others I have. Two of them I picked up used/cheap because the original owner didn't trust them any more even after going back to Aimpoint for service and still glitching out now and then.
Can't tell you how many times the dot has blinked out in the middle of a firing string and has me twisting the battery cap and banging them on the bench to get the dot back.
I eventually found one big issue is that the boneheads used unplated brass for the positive battery contact and it oxidizes over time, requiring an occasional cleaning/sanding. A dab of dielectric grease after cleaning seems to help.
It's not abuse that kills them, it's time... and probably environment to a degree.

For perspective, an Ultradot was my first dot almost 30 years ago and it's still been 100% reliable.
Have a number of the good old japanese produced Tasco dot's that have never glitched, some on well used spring piston air guns which are notorious for destroying optics.

Maybe they've worked out the issues by now but all I use the Comps for these days is range duty, I'd trust my Pinty's more.

Rant off... lol...
Yeah that's what I don't get about the guys who stick by "NUTTIN' CHINESE TOUCHES MUH GUNS'. Many people still have this nostalgic backwards view that China is just commie villagers dancing in a rice patty and can only make cheap plastic McDonald's toys. Nothing can be further from the truth. The best red dot emitters are Chinese. They now have cutting edge tech in optics and high end glass. Flashlights, LED tech, etc. NV gear. I once drank the koolaid too back around 2010 - "Aimpoint, EOTech, Trijicon, Surefire" THE ONLY companies you can depend your life on. Not anymore lol.

Thinking of putting one on my 12 gauge auto for turkey. We have one my wife's new 410 and it's really nice, at least when testing loads.
I bought a handful of Bushnell TRS25 red dots when they were on sale and have not had any problems with them. I use one on a Mossy 535, via rail mount. BUT, if you're hunting in wet brush, rain, snow, etc., it'd be nice to have a tube-type sight with some flip-up caps.*

*just found some on Bezo's site - Monstrum Flip-Up Lens Cap Set

Let's be real here. An AR platform rifle in 5.56 doesn't have enough recoil to 'destroy an optic', not even a shitty Temu-level Chinese airsoft one. That said, the Sightmark likely doesn't shift its zero with temperature changes like a "Real EOTech" does.
I have seen red dot glass fly off AR15.

Told a friend to not buy some POS red dot for $30. He bought it. We went to the range and the glass flew off. [rofl] [rofl]

I was there.

Oh shoot. I just threw on one of these $55 Triton NAUTILUS 'RMR-just-as-good' dots on top of my Primary Arms 1-6x on a MONSTRUM mount. Hope the glass doesn't fly out and the extra $25 makes a difference in quality.

Lets face it, there is a skinflint limit.......a 30 dollar optic.....yeah whatever happens happens.....YMMV. Breaks throw it away. Kinda dumb to buy this shit. I do have one on my turkish range pistol and its been fine, but if it breaks...I could give a fxck less....its not like Im gonna be holy shit that broke! If the 275 dollar pistol breaks I could give a fxck less...... Move on and don't care.

You get what you pay for in that price range. That said, both have been great and I have 1500 rounds trouble free thru that pistol. Every trouble free round thru that thing is a win, and I was able to buy another Glock or better pistol for more serious stuff because of it.

That said....NES likes to call 100 dollar Vortex cheap shit optics......... that shit is probably not gonna happen......might not be the best glass, but it likely works and it didn't cost 800 - 1200 bucks. And even if it did break....Vortex will likely make it right.

NES likes shit optics......NES is also full of optic snobs that think they are operators that need that shit on every rifle/pistol they have.

OP will Turkey hunt probably 2-3 weeks out of the year, maybe more...but still.....once a year. Buy middle of the road you'll be fine.

Or buy used.
My ACRO, PRO, trijicon credo were all bought used for well under retail despite being parked on safe queens by prior owners.
