Mass RMV / DOT Security Policy

Policy isn’t law. That sign carries as much weight as the one that says no video inside. It’s a bully tactic where armchair lawyers make shit up to try make you comply. F off is my response.

Trust me, I agree. But nothing in the MGL supports this.

I doubt anyone has been charged with violating this yet and I doubt anyone will be charged except in extreme circumstances. Like when a felon is trying to go to Boston City Hall with a firearm and gets stopped at the metal detectors. 269/10 will just be an add-on charge to everything else he gets charged with.

But once again, this is what Mass wants: To create fear among legal gun owners to change our behavior but never actually prosecute anyone (i.e. Healy’s 2016 AWB “opinion”).
I used to do work for a playhouse and went in one time to see them setting up metal detectors .
Apparently they found out someone had carried in the theater (legal permit holder) and went full moonbat.
I asked the guy who manned the thing "I do " .
I said well if someone does come in here with bad intent you'll be the first one to die.
The look on his face was priceless .

My uncle was a Statie back when it meant something. He was apoplectic when the RMV and MDC cops got folded into them.
As far as attitude goes, they all practically had the same one back then.
In order of assholia back in the day:
RMV
MDC
MSP
The registr

The Registry, the Capital Police & the MDC police all got absorbed....at the time the Staties were bullshit.
Of course, most of the Troop -ah's were in shape and had to spend six months at an academy for five days a week in order to gradumacate.
One of them was so fat they had to get a driver for him because he couldn't fit behind the steering wheel.
And A-holes to the man.
The RMV cop in Brockton back in the day was HUGE and then some! It was a struggle for him to get off of his chair, walk to your car, get in, and then reverse the order when done with the road test! I will say, he was a nice guy to me because he realized I wasn't petrified of him and he asked why? I had three relatives that were active duty cops back then. The road test was simple, drive around the block and go back. It must have been close to lunch time! License in hand in under 15 minutes.

True, but without some type of advanced notification the public would otherwise have no way of knowing a certain area is a prohibited area.
Are you new to Mass?? Cause laws.
Otherwise the Commonwealth could just declare every location a prohibited location whenever it was convenient to support a gun charge.

They are working on it.

I think we can all agree that an RMV office is a “prohibited area” under this section. It’s a place under the control of the state government used for the purposes of government administration.

This. Under the new law.

Sure, there were armed Registry cops at the Boston office back in the 70s when I got my license. But that's not really my question. I'm wondering what authority the DOT has to declare their areas to be gun free.
It’s because someone might feel the need to correct a smug attitude That’s why

So, walking into the RMV service center in South Yarmouth yesterday, I came across this sign:

View attachment 966412

The RMV website shows this sign for all the locations that I bothered to check. Effectively the same signs are posted at a number of federal locations (the Social Security office in Attleboro, for one), but in those cases there are actually laws saying that you cannot carry in those locations.

Two questions.
  1. When did this start?
  2. How is a state department able to create its own restricted zones when the state legislature hasn't seen fit to do so?
Makes one wonder if this is enforceable.
CMRs are created "in the dark" and massdot could have created their own CMR modification to suit their purpose.

Didn't the new C. 135 ban possession of firearms in all gov't buildings? If so, the sign might be their way of telling the public plus adding all other things that they don't like.

RMV in Brockton had armed security for many years. Given the clientele they usually dealt with, it was probably considered a necessity.

This sign also prohibits knives, pepper spray, and Tasers, none of which are mentioned in 269 10(k). Past insinuating that 269 10(k) is not the basis for the prohibition, it doesn't explain how they could block those as well.

Why cant you bring fireworks into the DMV

I conceal my fireworks so they can't see them. I usually EDC a few sparklers and some snakes...
