rem 700 short action same size in 223?

So here's a stupid question but i can't seem to find the answer anywhere.
I know that the bolt face for a Remington 700 action is a different size for 223 vs 308 but is the action itself the same size?
If i have a rifle chassis system for a Remington 700 short action meant for 308 variants using a AICS mag could i drop in a Rem chambered in 223?
The AICS mags for 223 say that they have the same external dimensions as the 308 type ones.

The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of a 223 bolt action but have no idea what type of stock I would have to buy as I hate the factory Remington ones and want to use detachable AICS mags for the extended length.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Just having a hard time wrapping my head around them being the same size and wanted to see it in writing.
