I have an 870 clone 18" barrel. I bought a 28" barrel for it this weekend of craigslist.

Here's my problem. The O ring that goes over the shell tube ends up about 4-5" closer to the receiver than the barrel I had on there. Any idea why this would be? My simplest solution is to just buy a piece of pipe that is that exact length and put it between the ring and the ratchet thing at the end of the shell tube.

Comments? Suggestions?

How many rounds fit in your 870's magazine?

The answer to that is key to explain the problem you are seeing.

My 870 Express fits only four rounds in the magazine. That's the standard 870 magazine length and for which all sporting barrels are made to.

It appears your gun has an extended magazine and so the magazine tube cap ends up being too far fwd when you install a barrel meant for a gun with a four round mag.

You're probably stuck making some sort of sleeve to make up the difference.
