I just picked up a Remington 11-87 police and i want to change out the charging handle to a competition or tactical type. how hard is that to change myself? also any recommendation? i read that some of them will mess up if i stick a side saddle on there but that didn't seem right is im just extending the handle and it has nothing to do with the side saddle.

It should be easy. I say that because I know I took mine off onetime and it was easy to put back together.

It should not interfere with a properly mounted sidesaddle. The sidesaddle goes on the opposite side of the gun.

Easy peasy. Grasp bolt handle and pull to the right. It is held in by a detent. Insert new handle until it clicks home.

Good luck.

BTW put the stock one in your parts drawer for "just in case".

Michael.

Yep, But I would bring a spare with you when you shoot.

ok great thanks. when you say pull to the right you meen when the gun is laying down or as if your pointing down range. Sorry for all the newbie questions. iv only owned pumps before.
