My Remington has an internal magazine and it's just a malfunction nightmare. IF I can get 5 rounds in it securely, I often have to really force the bolt forward to get a round in the chamber. Sometimes, the round will sit either too low or too far towards the rear to push forward and I have to take a knife or something else to get it to sit correctly. Other times the round will be angled all wrong and a push of the bolt forward gets the round angled up too far preventing it from moving into the chamber. That's when I want to take a hammer to it..

I'm thinking of getting rid of the internal magazine altogether..

Perhaps I should ask a question...

Does anyone have a resource for installing a mag well for a Remington 700 that has an internal magazine?

As for the capacity of the internal box... The capacity of 700's is different from model/caliber. I know my 700 ADL in .30-06 will hold 4 in the box (I have a feeling that yours is this way). You can push the 4th down and load a 5th into the chamber maually. This has never been an issue for me due to this is my hunting rifle, and quite honestly, it is a rare occasion I load more than 3 rounds into it at a time.

If you want a detatchable box magazine there are always THESE.
I cannot attest to their reliability or ease of conversion, but it is an option.

Hope this helps.

My 700 BDL Custon Deluxe in 30-06 will only hold 4 in the mag with one in the chamber. It's my hunting rifle. I carry a leather pouch that holds 10 more rounds on my belt.

Years back I bought a synthetic stock and installed the conversion in it but I've never used it.

My 700 sps in .308 will hold 5 in magazine but I don't have any problems. You could always get the drop mag bottom metal and have a gunsmith install.

It does help. It looks like it will drop in without messing with the trigger assembly or anything (which is something I need to learn more about before I start messing with the trigger pull..)
