Rescued a dumped cat from the deer woods today.

Im not a fan of cats.....they do massive damage to birds and hunt the shit out of small game when left feral.

I lived near Barre Falls Dam when I lived in MA. A dropoff point for cats like all the fxcking time. I had a dog all the time so the cats wouldn't bother me in most cases.

But the few times in between when my dog passed and I was getting a new one....I'd get cats all the time around. I'd take them to animal control and they would do nothing but say....drop it off back in Barre Falls, or wherever you found it....we can't take it.

So I'd leave them right in the parking lot of animal control.

Cat was dropped off at the Fairhaven Animal Shelter. Officer Terry made room... That cat was such a sweetheart. I'm relieved because I didn't know what I would do if they couldn't take it. But I'm a little sad to see it go to be honest.

If they can't find it's owner (I don't expect they will), and it comes back with a clean bill of health after it's quarantine and checkup, I may end up trying to adopt it and seeing if we can make it work with our existing cat.

I was relieved to have it go to a no kill shelter that I know does good work. But now I'm kind of sad to see it go..... Such a sweetheart... The Fairhaven Animal Shelter does very good work. If it had to go someplace, I'm glad it was there.

Cute cat. I never find anything in the woods except birds. Can't wait to see her updates in the cat thread.

I was talking with the wife yesterday about the video where the guy tries to get a kitten out of the woods and gets swarmed by kittens, and how I'd love to have that happen. My wife asked what I'd do, and I said I'd keep at least one of them, especially an orange one.
Unbeknownst to me, my daughter was in earshot, and got super excited about the possibility of a new kitten. Shit.

Hopefully she heard "kitten" and "orange", since I think she is now on the hunt.

I hate being that guy. . . . .

1. Circle of life. LV is one of those towns that is overly AC'd. You see posts on FB all the time. "ZOMG! There's a limping squirrel in my back yard. Can someone get ahold of Dave Whatshisname at AC? We need this thing rehabb'd." It's a squirrel, lady. Get over yourself. Nature is not peaceful nor kind.

2. I'm not sure that this is Animal Control's job. I think AC's job is to get REAL injured IMPORTANT animals to rehabbers (not squirrels and robins!) and to shoot/capture/whatever stray/dangerous/rabid dogs. Beyond that - I think we've MADE a bigger job than was designed. Government bloat.

I do feel bad for that cat, but in the end, it's a cat.

And who the flip dumps a cat????? That don't make sense. 8 seconds on FB and someone would snap that thing up. Sheesh.

Oh, and cats carry a parasite that can cause dementia and bi-polarism in women. Crazy Cat Lady isn't a cause, it's a symptom! Don't get a cat!

Now, let me continue.

1. Good job, PBM!

2. That's what people are SUPPOSED to do with "lost stray cats."

3. I don't think that was AC's job. We've given government too much power. Throw the cat in your trunk, eitehr keep it or drop it off at a shelter. Problem solved.

Good job. Please don't think me heartless from my last post. LOL

"Good morning,
He was not chipped. He's a neutered male so he belonged to someone at point. I contacted the cat shelter in Rochester to see if we can find the owner"

I expect the owner will not come forward as I firmly believe this cat was dumped. If no owner comes forward, we're going to adopt... I should just stop pretending it isn't going to happen and move on to acceptance....

great job.. and hairy boils to the people that dumped the cat

It pisses me off to no end. They could have just brought it to the same shelter I did. No questions asked (other than health records) surrender there... That's all I did literally 12 to 18 hours later after they dumped it...

f***ers...

I’d say a good looking healthy cat like that is way more likely to have escaped someone’s home or carrier in a vehicle etc. versus having been dumped in a parking lot. But who knows; some people do suck.

I’m not a cat lover but I would never leave a pet in need on the side of the road. Hopefully, if you broadcast a pic on Facebook across the Tritown Area, someone will claim it.

I owned a small business in a less than desirable part of town. Old mill buildings, deserted factories, you get the picture. I picked up multiple strays and brought them home, I was lucky that they were probably dumped there and weren't feral yet. Took a while for my other cats to get used to each other , but they did. All were indoor cats.

One word of caution. There are a couple of nasty transmittable diseases that cats can carry, Feline leukemia (FeLV) , feline panleukopenia, and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) that they can pass onto your other cats. Make sure a vet checks them. Some can be carriers and not show any symptoms.

So he's at the shelter now, where I expect he'll be for a couple of weeks while he's quarantined, gets checked out by the vet, etc. They'll get him ready to be adopted before they let him go.

I rehomed a half dozen baby kittens and took two for myself back when I lived in Hartford and the backyard feral cat situation was out of control. Got a local group to come trap the adults in the colony and neuter them and release. Ask around your friend groups. I got a few people to take in kittens, some of them never imagined themselves to be cat parents but love them now

Was hunting in Rochester MA for an evening hunt. On the way out, it starts raining. It's cold. I get back to the truck and this cat is shivering in the parking lot next to my truck. I'm the only vehicle in the lot. Cat is very friendly, has a mark around it's neck where a collar used to be. I've been around cats all my life, and have owned many. This animal was very upset, confused, scared, cold, wet, and disoriented. But it looks like it hasn't missed any meals or hasn't been out there long. I pick it up and put it in the truck, fire up the heat to get it warmed up and call Rochester animal control. This is where it gets interesting.

The woman tells me she can't take a healthy cat and I need to leave it. I tell her it's obvious to me this animal was dumped and if I leave it, it will be coyote food by dawn. After some additional back and forth, she finally agrees to come out. When she gets to the lot, she opens my truck door, and it slowly walks out and then darts into the woods. She says "see it's on it's way home. Probably someone's barn cat" I respond "you don't know what you're talking about. There is nothing in that direction except thousands of acres of uninterrupted timber filled with coyote and fox. The only way it can get to any houses or "home" is to swim across the Mattapoisett River - in December. She said "thanks for calling", got in her truck and left. Okay - whatever you need to tell yourself so you can sleep at night...

I went home but this was bothering me the whole way. I know this animal was not a "barn cat" or some outside cat that just happened to be in the lot in this state. So I dropped off the weapon and went back. There it was in the lot again, shivering in the rain. It immediately ran over to me and back in the truck it went. So, I talked to the neighbor - literally the only house on the street. Never seen the cat before in his life. This time, I said f*** that twat waffle animal control officer in Rochester, and I brought it home.

I have a cat myself and I have no idea if this animal has anything. My cat also does not like other cats. So I had to set it up in my garage, which is the best I can do with what I have. I gave it food, water, and a litter box in the largest hotel pan I had and a fleece blanket. It will go to the Fairhaven Animal Shelter in the morning. Officer Terry - actually cares. I'm sure it will get into a good home. I know there is probably a process to try to find the original owners. I would wager the animal isn't chipped and no one comes forward. Even if she was an escapee, no way she winds up where I was hunting unless someone brought her there. Hopefully she goes to a loving home soon. She's such a sweetie.

People suck...

You're a good man.

You're a good man.
I don't know about that... I try to be... but I don't know that I am...

I spent much of the evening crawling FaceBook groups for lost/found animals in the area. So far no one has posted anything about him being missing. I looked at Craigslist too. The shelter is doing their network thing too, getting the word out to other shelters and attempting to see if anyone is looking for him. No hits so far.

You're a good man charlie brown.

My (recently deceased) dog was a rescue from down south that was found tied to a fence post along some railroad tracks. Count me among those that naturally dislike people and love animals, except deer...ill kill the shit out of them [rofl]
