I had a bought an Auto Ordnance 1911 to use as a project gun. The gun had disgusting sights and the worst trigger I ever felt on a 1911. Here is a breakdown of the parts/rework
Gun - $450
30 LPI Hand Checkering of front Strap - $36 (Grobet 6" Checkering File 30 Lines per Inch)
30 LPI hand Checkering Rear of Slide - $0
Nowlin Match Ultra light Adjustable Trigger - $28
Wilson Combat Bullet Proof Sear Spring - $7
XS Express Big Dot w/ Tritium - $81
Sig 1911 Target Main Spring Housing – 0$
Sig Sauer Rosewood Grips - $0
Wilson Combat High-Ride Beavertail Grip (298B) - $40
Ed Brown Thumb Safety - $31
Remington R1 Slide Release - $0
Smith and Wesson hammer - $10
EGW Match Barrel Bushing w/carry bevel - $20
Total into the gun = $703
Here are some pics of the gun prior to the work:
First time trying to checker the front strap (30 LPI)... didnt come out prefect, but it will prive much needed grip on the front strap. You can see where I chamfered the slide release pin hole.
I utilized the Main spring housing from a Sig Sauer Target 1911. i contoured the bottom to match the frame contour.
Here are some pics of the firing components (all AO factory except for the Smith and Wesson Hammer). All relevant surfaces were polished:
The Nowlin Match trigger was polished, and you can see the wings adjusted out slightly to take up some slack. trigger bar was polished.
The Slide release/Takedown lever is a factory Remington R1 unit. The pin was shortened for a flush look with the frame. A chanfer was added to the portion that contacts the plunger to allow for a straight down drop in (rather then a drop and swing that sometimes causes idit scratches).
I had to do alot of fitting of the Wilson Combat beavertail to get it to fit (modifying the frame and beavertail):
The thumb safety is a Ed Brown Wide unit that took ALOT of work to get to fit right. Had to some additional grinding on the underside of the thumb pad because it was hitting the grips.
Polished the feed ramp and you can see the bevel added the to the slide stop/ Takewdown lever hole. Also did some shaping on the ejector.
Added serrations to the back of the slide.
Fitting of the EGW Match Bushing:
Reused the factory barrel, recoil spring, guide rod, plug, mag catch, Sear Spring and plunger assembly.
Final assembled pics prior to giving to greg Derr for some work (machine front sight dovetail for XS Big Dot and cerakote). I will update this thread with final pics, but here are some final assembly pics:
