I understand there are a number of processes to to create barrels. From what I have read button rifling is the most precise and accurate. I can see this on a long barrel rifle. My question is does the process type of rifling in a pistol barrel that's 3 to 6 inchs really make difference or are rifleing tolerances no matter what process you they use more important.

Button or cut, either can produce barrels wayyy more precise than any shooter. Some say cut will provide better consistency in certain circumstances because it cuts the material instead of pushing the material. But I’m not sure how much that actually matters. People get heated about their preferences though.

As for pistols, no, the way the rifling is made likely won’t have any affect on precision, because even really precise pistols are still only going to shoot no better than 3 MOA. There are lots of other factors at play with a pistol’s mechanical accuracy besides just the barrel precision. BUT, the barrel does still need to be made precisely to have good results. It’s what companies like KKM and Barstow do with their pistol barrels.

Have you ever heard of Lakeline llc barrels?

I have one of their barrels for my Taurus TX22. Seems decent. Not a dramatic change in accuracy like I had hoped but then again I only have a couple hundred rounds through it

The most precise and accurate would be hammer forged. There's nothing wrong with button and broach. On a handgun you're not going to see any accuracy difference.

That’s a bold claim when the matches are dominated by barrels using cut and button rifled barrel blanks from the likes of Bartlein, Krieger, Proof etc.

rifling in pistols is only there so they can match boolits fired into ballistics gel with the slug they pulled from the shooting victim. they can then trace the gun to the original buyer, and solve lots of crimes. that's what the tv shows tell us, so it must be true
He did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

A cut rifled barrel is generally twice the price of one that is button rifled.
Is it twice as accurate? No. But it will generally last twice as long. Price per round is essentially the same.

Rifle barrels only: I have no clue about pistol barrels.

I cant tell you whats better
Single point cutting rifling is a longer process , more control of depth of cuts
Button , forces a “button” through the bore in what 1 or 2 pulls?
Hammer forged? From what I understand it is a somewhat short process with stress relieving properties and “toughening up “ the steel ?

As for accuracy : I guess it comes down to how well the barrel is made
How good is the chamber and crown

For pistol accuracy ? Longer sight radius might help

I always have to ask when it comes to pistols
What are you getting for “accuracy” now and what are your expectations on improvement from up grades.

Im a middle of the road shooter.
On a good day with rifle under 3 moa with iron sights
Pistol : I have not shot for “accuracy” in years
Accuracy for me was keeping them all in the black bull of a 50 yard service pistol target. I cant even recall the last time I tried

I can hit the 10” steel at the club , think its at 20 yrds 9/10 regularly at moderate speed

$150 barrel in a $300 gun is probably not going to help .
Finding some 22lr that it really likes might have better gains.
In short pistols your not getting complete powder burn in 22lr so lots of inconsistencies there.

When I want to shoot as accurate as I can
With a pistol I reach for my SW model 41
In recent times I have done my best with eley tenex pistol and SK match pistol
