Hey all,

I'm looking for experiences of people who use the newish Savage Hog Hunter rifle, NOT hog hunters who are just plain crazy. Actually, go ahead and tell me those too!

I've used what Google-fu I have, and there isn't a whole lot out there. I'm mainly curious if there is a significant performance/accuracy hit by this rifle having a slightly shorter barrel than, say, the 116FCSS? I wouldn't normally think so, but the Savage Scout reports make me think it is possible.

Any info is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Pelikan

I just took one home yesterday so I'll update this after I take it to the range. As far as I know, accuracy has next to nothing to do with barrel length, the Hog Hunter has a short, heavy barrel that should be very stiff. I have heard that this will actually help the accuracy, even though range will be slightly affected by the shorter barrel. Look for reviews on the Savage Precision Carbine, it is more like the Hog Hunter than the Scout is.

Shorter bbl = lower velocity. Should have no real bearing on accuracy. As long as the round stays supersonic, you're good.

Thanks, I'll look forward to your findings..

That's what I thought, but when you can't find any real reviews..you ask here! [grin]

Took it to the range today, I was able to get some good groups at 50yds after I got the sights adjusted. Unfortunately, I forgot a sandbag/rest so I had some trouble at 100yds using the iron sights without a rest. I could put them on the paper but the groups weren't very good and I doubt it was the rifles fault. Overall I am very happy with it since I plan to use it as a brush gun for bear, but throw a scope and a bipod and I'm sure it would be a tack driver.
