I just picked up a brand new 93R17 BTVSS that I had my dealer order me. Quality level is at a "Are you F'in kidding me" level!

Gee is that cross-threaded ???

I could have posted more of all the burred edges around the bolt handle or the nice tool slip mark on the breech of the barrel but forgot to take picture's. Now to see what Savage does about this.

Having sold at least a dozen and unpacking/assembling one just today, that really is an absolute anomaly. At first, I thought that perhaps your dealer or the distributor screwed this up, (which happens - trust me), but it does indeed look like a rifle that slipped through QC. If anything, the Savage 93R17 is among the most nicely finished rifles I have seen. My only gripe is the cheap feel to and slightly difficult to fit magazines - other than that, it's a beautiful rifle...I think Savage will make this right for you - keep us posted...

Wow. That's a far cry from the one I have.
Guess I got lucky.
Let us know how this ends.

Same here.

FWIW I had an older 93R17 w/out accu-trigger that I had to send to Savage because I couldn't get rounds to extract. I had bought it from NET a long time ago and was told I had to call Savage.
Savage wound up sending me a new magazine at first, then a new extractor, then finally told me to ship it to them and they reamed the chamber because it was out of spec. After that it functioned 100% and I had extra parts and a mag.

I'n my opinion they person that assembled that rifle should be fired. That screw had to be installed and then a spring had to be installed on top of it. There is no way that would have gone un-noticed, the assembler apparently just didn't care.

I just got off the phone with Savage and was not to impressed. After I gave them the serial number they said the rifle shipped in October of *2007*(edit) and where somewhat questioning if I bought it new. Anyway the outcome was send it in with a note and typical turn around time is 2 weeks.

Are the barrels even replaceable on these??

Sounds to me like something very fishy is going on. I'd speak to your dealer as well...

The Dealer is my friend that owns a very small shop. He order this for me last week. I have the distributor paperwork showing the ship date. Also the barrel scratches / gouges where there before the satin finishing of the barrel.

was going to purchase the same rifle when i was up at the KTP several years ago...good thing i bought the ruger 77/17 instead.

Sounds like a Star Trek time transporter issue...

Exactly...[thinking]

Well, I just checked three rifles at Dicks Sporting Goods - two 93R17BVSS and one 93R17GLV. The two SS were made in October 2008 and the GLV was made in July 2008. I have no idea why you were sold a circa 1997 rifle, (I wasn't aware these were even available then), but something is not right in Denmark...

Well I'm not to impressed :(

1) They said that the fit of the stock where one side was touching and the other had a large gap would not effect the performance of the rifle. I agreed but said cosmetically it was not acceptable!

2) The said they buffed the gouges out of the barel which I find HARD to believe. They where deep!

3) They said the cross threaded screw was barely even in, and once unscrewed it went back in straight.

UPS dropped the gun off yesterday I tossed it in the car and drove over to my dealer. I opened it up and the owner who was 15 feet away at the time, looked over he said whats up with the finish on the barrel!

They *hand* sanded / blended the deep gouges out and then had finished the barrel with scotch bright leaving a horrible uneven finish. UPS picked it up today from the dealer and it's on it's way back to Savage.

The worst thing is on Friday when they called to let me know it was shipping back to me I asked them what what they did to fix the barrel gouges and they said they "scotchbrighted" them out. I told them that there was no way that scotchbright would have taken then gouges out and asked them to please not to waste my and your time if the rifle does not look new. She said she personally would pull it off the truck and commented that *NOW* it would not ship Monday because of my concerns.

When I called just a few minutes ago I spoke to the same women and she said that she and 3 of the office workers looked at the rifle and that it met all the factory specifications!

Junk Junk Junk!

Funny thing is when the rifle was returned yesterday the repair work order stated "Ream tight chamber"

Get what you paid for.

+1 on that!

Sounds like it is time to contact the boss:
Ronald Coburn (Chairman and CEO)
Albert F. Kasper (President and COO)
Savage Arms, Inc.
100 Springdale Rd.
Westfield, MA 01085

List the details of your experience (this thread makes a good outline), add the pictures, and send a registered letter to one of them.

Let them know who you have already talked with and your disappointment with the service.

Be sure to let them know that 723 people (and counting) have viewed this thread.

FWIW, I have had no problems with any of my four savage rifles. I have had fine service from the parts and custom shops.
