Just got off the phone with Savage again........they apparently just don't care about pleasing their customers.
They acknowledged the barrel finish was poor and said that they had their head gunsmith re-polish it again. They have no understanding that the barrel now has divets where the originally DEEP gouges where sanded away removing barrel material. When running your finger over the original spot where the gouge was you can feel a dip in the barrel.

Dude...Go over their heads, (as suggested by AndyNH)...It is possible, but it takes patience and persistence...
If I remember right, the Savage rimfire rifles are from the former Lakefield Arms in Canada that Savage bought a while back, and the centerfires are from Westfield. I wonder if the difference in customer service is based on that. It may be that Savage in Westfield doesn't have the parts/equipment in Westfield to fix the rimfires, so they are tempted to try half-assed repair work instead of fixing it correctly, as Marcus's FP10 was. I don't intend this as an excuse for Savage's behavior over your rifle - they need to do better than what they put you through. After reading your thread, I feel like I hit the lottery because my 93R17 wasn't a mess from the factory.
+1 to your dealer for sticking up for you, though. If you don't think they'd mind having their name up here, could you tell us who they are? It's always nice to know who the good guys are.
good luck with that one, you will hit a wall trying to go over someone's head. they will have more to answer for if the owner has to take a call concerning a customer service problem. like their own jobs
my advice would be sell it and buy a CZ
