I have been thinking about a nice little project of buying a relatively inexpensive SBS shotgun from say Stoeger and making it a sawed off shotgun. Just to be clear all I need is the NFA sbr stamp correct? Then I can have a gun smith cut it down?

Most of the ones I've see sold you cant even buy them in mass since they where not made that way. They buy it from Remington or mosberg then make a sbr and sell it to you .
Try buying a virgin receiver .....

Just to get your terminology straight, an SBS is a sawed off shotgun.
It think he's referring total aide yide shotgun.
Depends on which state you live in. Jack.ugh, so I can't buy a stoeger SXS then NFA it as SBS and start cutting?
BULL CRAP the ATF can determine the factory SBSs if they wanted to. (IE: Mossberg &Remington)
I had the feeling that the ATF did feel that it was a load of BS, but they were also happy to comply with Martha's wishes
The mass law stated that it needs to be made at the factory as a short barrel shotgun to be allowed. That being said, the AG has contacted the ATF asking them to not approve any SBS form 4's in MA and they are not processing them. The AG said that it is impossible to tell if it was made as a SBS or converted, so they don't want any processed. The ATF is happy to comply with that. This came directly from the phone call I had with the ATF when I was checking on my Form 4 for my SBR. I asked them because there was a rumor that the AG was doing the same thing with SBR's due to the poorly worded AWB in MA. the ATF examiner told me it was just the SBS that have been shut off
What would give the AG any reason to look at SBSs?
If they can't tell the difference, why is one bad and the other not? Jack.
