I have been thinking about a nice little project of buying a relatively inexpensive SBS shotgun from say Stoeger and making it a sawed off shotgun. Just to be clear all I need is the NFA sbr stamp correct? Then I can have a gun smith cut it down?

Quiet Ben.

140 MGL 121.

You may own and register an short barreld shotgun as sold by factory. If you hack off the barrel and are caught with it, lube your ass.

Most of the ones I've see sold you cant even buy them in mass since they where not made that way. They buy it from Remington or mosberg then make a sbr and sell it to you .

Try buying a virgin receiver .....

The mass law stated that it needs to be made at the factory as a short barrel shotgun to be allowed. That being said, the AG has contacted the ATF asking them to not approve any SBS form 4's in MA and they are not processing them. The AG said that it is impossible to tell if it was made as a SBS or converted, so they don't want any processed. The ATF is happy to comply with that. This came directly from the phone call I had with the ATF when I was checking on my Form 4 for my SBR. I asked them because there was a rumor that the AG was doing the same thing with SBR's due to the poorly worded AWB in MA. the ATF examiner told me it was just the SBS that have been shut off

I had the feeling that the ATF did feel that it was a load of BS, but they were also happy to comply with Martha's wishes

BULL CRAP the ATF can determine the factory SBSs if they wanted to. (IE: Mossberg &Remington)

It's not the ATF's job to interpret MA law for enforcement. It IS the AG's job to do so, so if the MA AG's office tells the ATF that ALL SBS's are illegal in MA, of course the ATF isn't going to argue.

If this is true, it's ultra-retarded.

NH can't come fast enough.

What would give the AG any reason to look at SBSs? The ATF now checking the past transfers on most guns to make sure they are what the paper works says is correct. It would be real simple to look at the original form of registration to see if it came from the original manufacturer in that configuration. Something stinks here.
