What do they really have to do, though? If you can get a NICS check done in minutes, what possible justification can there be for it taking so long? 6 months or more? Ridiculous.

It's completely ridiculous, there are WAY to few examiners.

Roughly ten examiners for the whole country and a HUGE explosion in the number of SBRs and cans being bought have slowed the system to a crawl. Also, it is not just a NICS check, but a set of prints going to the FBI and waiting on the reply. Also, the estimate is close to 50% of the forms submitted currently have errors on them and have to have a error letter generated, sent back and then re-looked at by the same examiner. Look on the Barf15.com forum for the amount of people complaining about their trusts being sent back due to issues and you can see why there is a backlog. Oh, yeah, and forgot about the guy who tries to get his examiner rather than a CSR to talk about his error and argue the point rather than just resubmit.

Expect 6 months minimum, and if CLEO goes away I agree at least a year for a form.
