My wife is showing interest in shooting! [dance]

She signed up for an LTC course next month. She came skeet shooting with me this weekend and liked it. We had the good fortune of an uncrowded range and some experienced shooters offering tips--it was only my second clay outing. On the way home, she said that she wants her own shotgun. All of that is good but there is a catch...

She wants a light weight, 20 ga. or lighter; semi-automatic; wood only, no synthetic furniture; and she needs a short stock. Any recommendations?

Searching online I have found the Franchi 720 and the Benelli Montefeltro Youth which seem to fit the requirements.

Does anyone know of any other models that fit the bill, or any local dealers that may have youth/compact models in stock?

The Remington 1100 is very popular. It comes in 20 ga , wood, but they no longer offer a youth model, but I think it is still worth consideration. Check around you might be able to find a youth model used. Nick's Sport shop in Palmer is a Franchi/Benelli dealer although I don't think he has either model you mentioned in the store. You could also check www.ktpguns.com they might have one of the models you mentioned in addition to a 20 ga 1100 so she could shoulder a couple different ones and get a feel for what she likes.

Good luck

When my children were growing up I purchased a Remington 1100 20 ga. and an extra wood stock. I had a recoil pad fitted to the extra stock with a shorter OAL and installed it on the gun. The children enjoyed shooting it. The Rem 1100 is a tried and true design and performs flawlessly.

Thanks! I found a reference to a compact 11-87 on the Remington web but it is synthetic. I could not find any info on a compact/youth 1100. I did check out KTP online but you are right, a road trip may be in order so she can shoulder a variety of models. Nick's is not too far from me--I will have to stop by.

Hmm, funny, I don't seem to be too bothered about this chase![grin]
