Should you know if your neighbor owns a gun?

All white excluding one Indian. Such diversity
If you keep scrolling down their staff page, it turns into a Benneton ad. They have a long employee list. I just got bored looking up
Addresses. I did screen shot a bunch in case thry decided to take it down.

I did not know this.

But I did have to change the name of a boat I bought when I found out what the word “FELCHER” meant.
That was the Bunkers' clergyman on All in the Family: Reverend Felcher

I wrote on NES a long time ago that 'staff editorials' lost any sense of credibility when the news organization refuses to put an authors name to the post.

If you write in you need to identify yourself, often with name and address. Not so with the paper, Group think that becomes anonymous in fighting and finger pointing when they are shown to be the miscreants that they are. f*** them. Matt

If you hold an appointment as a BFS Instructor, the fact that you also have an LTC (which is a requirement for such appointment) is already publicly revealed: MSP publishes a list of BFS Instructors, their home towns, and phone numbers.

As for me, all of my neighbors fit into one (or more) of the following categories:

(1) They have come to me for BFS training and certificate;

(2) They have asked me to take them shooting and/or for advanced training;

(3) They have asked if they can come to our house when the riots come to our neighborhood.

Good to know, happy they left me off the list.

I hear shooting all around me here in Missouri. There was someone near me that shot off at least a brick of .22 yesterday....I think it was my neighbor to the north about a quarter mile away. His family owns a farm store in town and I've met him already. Seems very conservative. His son, who is a veterinarian and lives behind me, was also shooting the other day....sounded like more than .22. I'll get to know them better when I return to Missouri for good in September.

I hear shooting all around me...
I'm in S.NH, and on weekend mornings, step outside and it's like popcorn popping, even in mid-winter. Mostly .22, but I know a few shoot clays off their deck, and there's definitely some 9mm in the mix.

Seems to me the only neighbors who don't own guns are the Karens who complain about weekend gunfire on the town facebook group.

Neighbor gains access to law abiding gun owners information.
Neighbor decides to red flag gun owner because f that guy.
Now the law abiding gun owner is no longer a law abiding gun owner.
Neighbor ignorantly sleeps better.
The previously law abiding gun owner lists neighbor house as estate sale on craigslist while neighbor is out of town.

Also, seeing lots of replies in this thread of people who want to know this information, albeit not wanting others to know theirs, is it sarcasm?
Privacy goes both ways.

Go be trans and i got guns.
No reason for your neighbors to know ! A lot of this comes from their supposedly " High Morals ". People are funny nowadays , much more open with personal questions. I had a customer ask me right after the election who I voted for. I turned to them and said with a big smile, why would you want to know that? I suspect they already knew. People ask too many questions. Everything should be on a need to know basis. P.S. The Globe Sucks.

I don’t think my neighbors need to know that I own guns, nor do I need to know if they have guns, I know which ones don’t, they clearly advertise with their political signs how they feel about the world and they are the last ones I want to know there are guns in my house

I love it how the article tries to downplay this leading to theft, if publishing that information does in fact have no impact on targeting of residences then why don't we just list all of our possessions on a public site with explicit detail on where they are stored in our homes along with our vacation schedules.

the Globe is just continuing to show their usual liberal bias in trying to push for more restrictive gun control, and if that is outing neighbors to one another then I am sure they see that as a means to an end.

I guess I am lucky in that I know at least most of my neighbors also are licensed with one of them going so far as to have a nice big Sig sticker on their trucks back window.

Was the Winthrop shooter an LTC holder? Because they seem to imply he was as justification for this stupidity.

Yes, that was their justification. Or one of them. Regular readers all know the statistics that LTC-holders are less likely to commit any crime, let alone "gun crimes" - less than police, in fact. So, I won’t dig those statistics out.

Not that those w/o LTCs are, as a class, less law-abiding - just that criminals are largely not LTC-holders, and drag that class down. That said, people who jump through hoops to get background checks and LTCs have documented their history of at least "not getting caught". The 2016 DOJ study that found ~7.5% of state/federal prisoners got their gun at a gun shop, where a NICS background check would have been done, suggests few people who could pass a background check "break bad".

But if you’re a progressive liberal that wants more gun laws, it’s not about statistics, facts and logic, it’s distrust and fear of those others - Conservatives, Republicans, NRA members and the ilk that voted for Trump twice. For such people, knowing exactly who is armed in their neighborhood is about ostracizing, harassing and eventually disarming them.

It's all about the Fear,
Fear is the mind killer,
They do not think, have rational reasoning, or question anything that is put in front of them,
They act on feeling's
And people that act on feelings are easier to control and manipulate. ...
.........

Neither a man nor a crowd nor a nation can be trusted to act humanely or to think sanely under the influence of a great fear.
