Hi All,

Can anybody tell me which of these 2 clubs has the better indoor range?

Any other pros/cons between the two clubs?

I'm thinking during the winter months the indoor range would be a decisive factor.

Thanks.

David

Hopkinton. A friend of mine belongs there, nice club.

Southborough's indoor is literally a basement, complete with columns and field stone foundation. The clubhouse floor/basement ceiling isn't armored... or at least it wasn't when I was there. You can feel the floor ripple if you're upstairs and someone lets a .357 go. Not a great feeling, IMO. I'm not sure if they ever got their outdoor range situation straightened out, either. I joined, and 2 months later the outdoor range was shut down when a round escaped and hit a house. They didn't want to hear about it when I asked for a partial refund. What good is a range membership if I can't shoot at it? I just found the club to be very cliquey and unfriendly. I'm a member at Harvard now, and I can't imagine belonging anywhere else. Everyone is friendly, courteous and safety conscious.

I can't compare Hopkinton to Southboro since I haven't been to Southboro but you will like Hopkinton. I was a member in the late 90s and I've been there a handful of times since even though I now live over an hour away. It's one of the better indoor ranges I've been to and everyone I met there is very friendly. The indoor range is 24/7 access with a key card and is well maintained by a dedicated group of members including regular bullseye and IPSC shooters during the winter.

I've never been to Southboro, but am a member at Hopkinton. The range inside is set up nice. There are 6 shooting lanes that go out to 50 feet. There is a hanger for you target that can manually be cranked down range against a shooting mat with an steel plate behind it. It is well lighted and best of all it has a ventilation unit and heat for the winter. It is in the basement, so it does look, well, like a basement, but the walls are concrete and the backstop is good. There are no restrictions on what you can shoot there as long as it's a handgun calliber. Lead, jacketed, JHP, etc are all good.

Their outdoor range is back up and running and is very nice. I do agree with other posts that the Hopkinton Indoor range is nicer.
