Spikes Tactical

I have a Spike's .22LR upper. Good quality, no problems. I'd do business with them again.

I bought a stripped lower from them. Best price that I could find at the time and very quick shipment.
I don't have any input on their uppers/barrels.

Cool. Want to build my own AR15, and there are so many places to chose from. It's kind of overwhelming. At the moment I'm thinking of getting the lower and parts from Spikes Tactical, with a Stag Arms upper.

Stay away from Stag.

do tell. [wink]

all the reviews I've read seem favorable... as for their lowers, I have one and it's holding up so far. round is about 250 between two uppers as of now. no issues, feels no more or less "solid" than a Colt, Bushmaster, S&W, DPMS ect...

He said Stag upper, you have a Stag lower.

Their uppers are crap. And before any of you commandos tell me how awesome yours runs, that's all fine and dandy. The fact of the matter is far too many of them are POS's. If you're going to put your life in the hands of a rifle you'll have the rest of your life to live with your decision.

I just ordered 2 spikes M4 uppers, his and hers, just waiting on the shipment. They had a sale a while back posted on AR15.com http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=124&t=483834

I don't know if it is still valid, was a few weeks ago, but it sure was a good deal. A complete upper with a 1/7 barrel and their buffer for 475 bucks. Give them a call and ask if the deal is still valid, that is what I did.

Spikes makes good stuff but that goddamned spider scares me.... The only problem I have with Spikes, is that they claim (ed) all of their stuff is HP/MP tested, but refuse to release the data. The market is shrinking and competition is up, so companies like BCM and LMT are putting out good, tested milspec stuff at good prices...If you go Stag and just want a range toy, have at it. I would not however have at it if your life is going to one day depend on it. They used to be the darlings of the AR world, but these days, you can do much, much better...

I placed a order with Spike for this http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=113&products_id=458 in 556. I have heard alot of good reveiws on Spikes.

Same here. Although they "lost" my order at first. I had to call and jog their memory and they shipped it out immediately. They said that they were waiting on bolts and were very apologetic that the order was delayed in shipping.

It can be overwhelming, after and e-mail to YHM I discovered that their bolts are from Stag. Now I just buy most of my stuff from BCM I just wish they had more 6.8 stuff.

It seems we will never really know who is makeing what for who. Seems like they all source each other out for different parts. I have a STAG model 2 upper runs just fine so far. just a touch over 2500 rounds with Wolf MilClasic ammo. I also have a S&W base model AR15 with no issues. My big problem is with mags. I been going through and rebuilding any that have issues. I do not intend to have either of them defend my life in battle. I have asked STAG,S&W,BUSHMASTER, RRA where they get their rough forgeings on the lowers and uppers, no answer ?

I would like to see a decent right up of the hows and whys some are better than others ? With real info. Like X manufacture gets its bolts from 3rd rate factory who also makes cheap silverwear for walmart.

I did deal with spikes when trying to get a 22upper group buy together. They did offer a slight discount but would not undersell some of there distributors. I actually found better prices on other online vendors.

True. I got my Spikes upper from one of the dealers in the dealer forum here and it was significantly cheaper that going to Spikes directly. (I can't remember the dealer's name at the moment but he was a pleasure to work with and he was right up in NH.) I think Adam at Infinite arms in Vegas also stocks some Spikes gear....

I've been toying with the idea of doing a Spike's group buy (mainly for the .22LR conversion kits) but I need to finish the Plum Crazy one first.

While the chart does give good info, there are certainly a few manufacturers not on the list that are building very heigh quality parts.

Totally, I think that chart is a bit dated.

Who would you guys recommend over Spike's for a lower?

If I were building an other rifle, I would go with BCM, their prices are reasonable and they make some quality stuff. I REALLY like the 14.5" mid length they released, and would have gone with that one over the Spikes that I ordered had it not been for the deal Spikes was offering at the time.

Firebird Precision. They have a few neat extras that separate them form the rest of the pack. You can set the sear angle and lock in the upper and lower.

edmorseiii I have a 14.5" one word... Violent

Thank you both, I'll start up a new thread with some more questions so I don't keep de-railing this one, haha.

Absolutely...Many will and or do not publish their specs and "the chart" tends to deal with more popular brands. It is not that dated however - it's updated quite regularly. There are some great builders out there flying under the radar making super rifles...
