hello all, i have an sr9c, love the thing,, my friend just bought one and hasn't yet fired it. i showed him how to disassemble it for cleaning. since mine had light primer strikes when new because of gunk in the firing pin channel i told him that we should pull the firing pin and clean the channel before our range trip. theres a small hole near the cocking indicator that you must insert a pin of some sort to depress a spring plunger that allows you to remove the plastic firing pin retainer. while my freinds gun is exactly the same as mine it does not have this access hole for the spring plunger. i couldnt remove the firing pin,,, anyone have any idea's? appreciate the help, been all over the web and to rugers site,, no luck

Is this a new design? Can you take tension off the firing pin directly thru the underside of the channel like aglock?

i can actuate the firing pin manually yes, and in the vid capewalk supplied you can clearly see the hole next to the cocking indicator ,,,,, my friends pistol does not have that spring plunger hole.

I can't find any videos on the ruger site demoing a new rear plate removal, but this photo from their 9E page shows a different rear plate than what I had on my pistols.

I would have him try an M&P or Glock style rear plate removal to see if that would work.

briz found it,, apparently its a new design, ill try looking into the m&p and glock procedure... btw went to the range today and no misfires or fail to feed,, i guess i did get it cleaned out well enough.

You'll need to clean it anyways. Mine had grease on it a few years ago. Firing pin+channel are always supposed to be bone dry. Plus you get brass shavings etc in there. 3/32" punch should do it. I've done it with a toothpick myself.
