Strange Incident at MA Gun Club on 1/2/2021

The guy is federal law enforcement and doesn't know anyone who will take a few cases of ammo? Not passing the sniff test. If it was an old woman getting ammo out of the house sure, a fed nfw. Same lot numbers were probably going to be used in a false flag shooting, they just needed some white supremacists' Trump supporters holding a couple cases to trace it back to...
Jesus F. Christ. Does the tin foil hurt when it's that tight?

Right. Because this happens all the time, just like this. Not a day goes by that I don't read an article about someone trying to entrap someone by offering half a dozen cases of ammo.

And, what exactly would this "crime" be?
Everyone is pretty much calling the 2 guys retards.

While at the same time saying to not trust the cops.

But the guy offering them the ammo was a fed.

So ... what is it? Don't trust the cops? Or maybe trust them when they give you free shit?

You really don't think this entire thing was sketchy AF?

Let's go with sketchy AF. Any feds reading this if you need a patsy just offer free ammo, sorry it didn't work out this time but based on the response that was an anomaly and you will surely find a sucker next time.

Stolen ammo.....and offered for free? Who steals shit to just give it away? If it was a crook that had stolen shit he wanted to get rid of wouldn't you think he'd have just ditched it in the woods vs drive to a public place to give it away?

whacko, exactly. All conjecture as to why he was getting rid of it.

I still don't understand what was going on. Why would a fed be giving ammo away?

Why would the PD first reject it and then keep it?

Why does the guy show up with one truck then with a different truck?

All this sounds sketchy AF.

I love all the NES "DONT CALL THE COPS. DONT TRUST COPS" ... but go ahead and accept free ammo from a sketchy AF cop. [rofl]

Believe me, Broc, until the club president called and spoke to the chief, the speculation and rumors were running wild around the club for a couple of days. To this day, no one knows why the fed did this.

Not passing the sniff test is why the members were cautious on this. It's a very strange and odd situation to say the least. I still wonder what I would have done if I were the member approached, but I do know I wouldn't have called the police. Without talking to the fed, we maybe could speculate on this for months and not come up with the correct answer. This is mainly why I just threw it out mostly as an FYI.

Definately a strange situation. May as well have been handing over cases of gold bars for free! However, if this guy did infact check out with the local LEO’s, then these members pretty much called the cops on the winning loto ticket.

Agree, I'm also trying to figure out what the crime is here. People give away stuff of value ALL THE TIME, for reasons rational or otherwise.
In the absolute worst case it's stolen property, and you'd just have to surrender it. You don't actually lose anything. But no reasonable person would every think the ammo was stolen, since it's being given away. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading some of these other posts.

My first phone call would’ve been to my wife, asking her to deliver dinner to the range because I was going to be there a while.
Imagine Feds rolling in later to "reclaim stolen inventory",
and all he finds is one of the club's brass rats engaged in
ziploc bagging cases; who looks up from the range spackle bucket
like Gollum looking up from lunch.

and what prevented those above mentioned members from escorting the guy to the club office, getting any officer, and accepting the ammo for storage at the club and providing a receipt?
as a gift it is not a licensed sale.
WTAF is a "licensed sale"?

The PD ... probably are prohibited from taking it home.
[rofl]
But they might be smart enough to nope away from a hinky deal...

I would have taken the ammo and offered to buy the guy a beer.

the only person breaking any law, if there even is one, is the fed giving away taxpayer bought stuff.
Receiving stolen Government Property would not sit well for the Ma**h***s when they want to renew their LTC. Maybe entrapment, but after $30,000 in legal fees, I doubt it would be a good deal.

Is it $100k or $30k in imaginary legal fees? Such a wide range of estimates in this thread, almost like it's wildly speculative and has no basis in reality. And I don't think someone openly identifying himself as a fed can manufacture a lawful transfer then charge you for being a party to that lawful transfer.

How would a person be prosecuted for that ?

Unless Mr Fed occifer states that he pilfered the ammo from some .gov place and you accept it knowing this, I don't see how a person would be breaking any laws.

The absolute worst that could happen is some fed agent takes it back.

People are really really f'n scared of their own shadow in this state, but I guess that is what MA wants.

I've known two guys, one DHS and one FFDO, who had a shitload of issued practice ammo they didn't want/need any more, and gave it away. One when they changed calibers and he had a bunch of practice ammo they wouldn't take back, and one who was leaving to take a private job.

Why can't this shit ever happen on my watch?

ETA: For all you Dick Tracy's claiming "receipt of stolen property," about a year ago some contractor broke into an ATF warehouse in WV and lifted a bunch of gun parts from "destroyed" firearms (slides, etc.) and sold them on eBay, etc. I bought one of them from eBay. Guess what happened? The ATF showed up at my door and (politely) said, "Sorry. That's fed property, illegally sold. We need it back." And I gave it to them. And that was the end of that. Woooo....

I had a similar discussion with a retired LEO/member at the club yesterday. He said he was given ammo to practice with, never used it all, and after a period of time, he would end up with about a case. I didn't ask him how long it took to amass that amount or what caliber it was thou. Perhaps an NES LEO can chime in.

If you had a dog that would have gone totally different, everybody knows that.

Exactly you knew them. This guy didn't know anybody that would take ammo off his hands?

Fail on all parties involved. If he was legit, he should have realized that this is MA and paranoia runs deep and sold it somewhere on one of the many websites out there. Sure, he would be selling federal property, but he doesn't sound like the brightest bulb in the first place and may or may not get a call from his former boss.

The gun club could have said thanks but no thanks and the members who wanted the ammo met him at the local dunks. Up to them if they wanted to partake. Dump the boxes and bag the loose ammo and call it a day..

I was shooting at our club when a older man drove in and had an assortment of shells and ammo and just wanted to donate it to anyone who wanted it. I thanked him and talked for a while and he left. I took some and offered the rest to anyone that wanted it, everyone HAPPY. Refer to post #22 "Gift Horse"
