Stuck Bore Snake...

dump the boresnake and clean it the conventional way.......rods, brushes and patches......
This. All a bore snake does is spread the fouling around.

1. Solvent
2. Brush
3. Patches
4. Rine and repeat till patches come out clean
5. Thin layer of oil in the bore

Bore snakes are for lazy people that want a warm fuzzy feeling that they kinda sorta cleaned their rifle.

The convivence of the Bore Snake makes it worth it to me to be a little more careful when I use it.

Conventional rods, brushes, and patches certainly have their place, but my problem was caused by me, not by the product.

My post was an attempt to help others who may find themselves in a similar situation.
No good deed goes unpunished. You just broke NES into two distinct and bitterly rival camps. The Boresnakes vs the Rod-n-patches.
I hope you're happy.

I guess you have never actually used one.

It's so long that by the time you get to the far end, it's all clean.

As you use it it gets dirtier farther back. After 100+ uses, either throw it out or wash it. Either way its portability and quickness makes it worth while. It's not a replacement for a thorough scrubbing.
I have tried them. Ran a brand new snake 10 times thru a Henry 357 rifle. Then out of curiosity put a dry patch thru it......fouling all over the patch.

I threw it away and grabbed my brushes and jags and sat down to actually clean my rifle.

Bore snakes are great. After awhile I toss them and replace them with a new one.

I don't operate like most of NES though.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned using a bore brush attached to a cordless drill.

Bore snake has its place. So do rods, brushes and patches.
A patch is about 1 square inch. I'm guessing a bore snake has 50 times that much area.

100% agree. The other advantage is it's nearly impossible to screw up your bore with the snake. I'll eventually do a 'deep cleaning' with brushes and patches, but the bore snakes are nice for a quick clean.
My bore snakes are saturated with rust preventive oil. I pull it through just to get oil in there until im ready to clean my barrel.

On about the fourth cycle, I felt that something wasn't quite right after the pulling on the rope, so I didn't yard on it.

Managed to get in a long wood screw in far enough that when I pulled on it with a set of pliers, the Bore Snake came out.

Whew!

I cut off the damaged end and pulled the remainder through.

Not sure if the end loop somehow got a twist in it during that last pull, but I'll pay more attention in the future.
The problem isn't with the Bore Snake. The problem is you used a right hand Bore Snake on a left hand gun.

I’ve never used one…. typically I just changed the barrel.

I am curious to buy one though, may make cleaning easier

You clean your guns?
Usually put in the dishwasher there’s a thread about this.. my Cary piece has like 200,000 rounds through it.. the only reason I still. Reliable as f*** and I’ve only cleaned it maybe five times.
