Target Sports Delivering Again - Megathread

Anybody know how this stuff compares to the Black Hills 77gr TMK? I know of Black Hills by reputation and have been looking for something spicy to keep in loaded mags.
CMP still had .223 in 77 and 68gr last time i looked, for less than a $1pr.
77 is gone, 68gr still in there, at $159.00 for 200 rounds, shoots 1/3 MOA from my 20" larue. mosty drills into the same hole at 100yds as long as shot is handled properly.

how is a heavier grain projectile “spicier”? this is a 70gr hornady projectile. If going to drop the $$ I would go with mk262 load given it’s established performance and my experiences w the round. $1.80 per round is freaking steep especially when M193 is less than 1/3 the price from same vendor.

for a carbine length barrel (14-18”) I don’t bother with heavier projectiles for defensive application, but that’s just my preference. For shorter barrels the heavier projectiles tend to maintain kinetic energy better and provide a longer dwell time, so they make sense in something like a 10-12” barrel. Regardless some of the heavy 223 projectiles can penetrate like crazy compared to a zippy 55gr (my preference).

Speaking of. Just popped up $1.38 per. Sounds pricey?

I grabbed some. One of two ammo varieties I’m allowing myself to purchase at this point (.380 HST is the other if anyone ever sees it). I know it’s pricey to begin with and the IMI version is still a buck a round. Worth the extra .38 cpr? Probably not, but oh well.

My thoughts as well, may grab a couple boxes just to have.

i do not like it at all.
i would advise to use a common predictable ammo - and with 1:8 twist it is better to stick to M855.
it is really not that difficult - you zero your scope to the ammo with best grouping you shoot the most - like for me it is a .223 68gr.
concurrently with that you need to know the drops and corrections you need for the 5.56 of your use - and the M855 compared to the .223 68gr goes about an inch higher at 100yds.
then you set and memorize drops at 200, 300 - and go with that.

the oddballs like mk262 - i can get it why they may use it in SBRs, but, overall it is an oddball that does not fit well, at least for me.

M855 is the battle round you need to stock up and keep in your 30rd mags, a bit, in a case if you will need to use it in a real thing. and you need to know its drops very well from all your rifles.

PS. and the best thing to do about the SBR - is to swap it for a tavor x95, zeroed with M855. even with its 1:7 twist x95 groups m855 very well, not as great as 1:8 twist barrels, but, well.

again, what i am saying is this - it is a very stupid idea to mix up .223 and 5.56 in all the 55, 62, 68, 77gr combinations. learn and stick to 2 or, top, 3 base ammo kinds - like a dirt cheap .223 55gr steel, then a best grouping .223 your barrel shoots best and the M855 - and you will be able to hit anything within 300yds without complex mathematics and adjustments.

start throwing in M193, mk262, 4 different sorts of .223 - and you will never be sure of what to expect.

I only picked up 120 rds. to play with and my range only goes to 200 yards. It’s fun to see how different rounds and weights group.

Variety is the spice of life!

Everything I own is zeroed with what I intend to use, should I ever need it. That doesn’t mean I can’t play with different rounds though.

well, he will not see benefits of m262 within 200yds neither. nothing wrong with playing, of course, i did not mean that. well, anyway, i think i was clear enough on what and why.

Mk262 0/1 makes better holes in bad guys inside of 200 yards tho. It yaws/cavitates faster than M193 does and way better than standard m855, which basically passes straight through inside of 200 yds.

Curious why 12ga target loads are still spendy when everything else is coming down.

Because when the mostly nons/newbs and armflappers were being fags and gobbling up centerfire and everything else last year, recreational shooters dusted off their shotguns and went back to shotgun sports because those loads were cheap and available well into the middle or even end of the summer last year. So people went full retard and gobbled that shit up. So you had a metric ton of people shooting shotguns last year that hadnt in a long time. Or even just new people. Birdshot was the last to go supply wise. Flippers also couldnt ruin birdshot, because nobody will pay more than a certain amount for it. Throw in the Japan olympics (and the fact that they probably will consume like 40 foot containers of birdshot loads) and thats not helping things either in terms of recovery.

Anyone have any experience with this? First ive seen of it.
Bosnian made. Appears to be good stuff. My Bosnian employee showed me a video of it being made in their factory. I've never used it, but I don't see a reason why it would be bad quality. Never had an issue with other eastern european brands.

Don’t tell him but some of us like Privi. (Serbian) [rofl].

FYI:
My 3/24 order from CMP just shipped so they are running about 4 months at this point.

Bob
what did you order there? mine was from 3/23 - for the 444H223 .223 Hornady Ammunition 200 rds/case and they charged card on 7/23 - now it is moved into the 'invoice history' section for a second or a third day and there it no tracking number in it still, nor the shipping email from them.
they had some delays before between shipping and charging but this one is the longest so far.

I never got a shipping notice or tracking number on my last order for 38 Special. This time I got 2 email notifications. 😂 They have to be buried over there.

This order was for 45ACP and is due on the 1st.
