The Liberty Training Rifle

I'd be up for a build. I just replaced the barrel on my 10/22T with a TacSol, got the sights in from Tech (incl the .920 barrel adapter) and now I'm waiting on the Vol. mag release, bolt release and extractor.

I put one together a couple years ago. I had the same worries about hitting too hard, not using locktite, etc... I never did get the ejector installed right and reinstalled the stock one.

How about a "group buy" on the slings, sling attachments, magazines, Tech sights, and other parts?

Yes, at my shoots I have the mag release, studs, swivels, and slings for sale. If smithy is at the shoot, or I have enough instructors, then there is the ability to get them installed right at the shoot Saturday morning. Smithy may also have the parts above for sale and the Tech Sights, too. Smithy is a Tech Sights dealer!

Any time you can come to a Firewall/smithy shoot, you can get all your LTR needs met for a reasonable price. Our goal is not to make money, but to get all the equipment problems solved on the first morning of the shoot so you can have an LTR for the rest of the Appleseed weekend.

Both smithy and I will be at the Peterborough, NH, shoot Feb. 19-20, 2011. This is a special shoot sponsored by Kifaru where they will be showing off winter survival/camping equipment.

PM smithy immediately to reserve Tech Sights for this shoot, as I know his inventory is low--I believe he has only one set left in stock.
 
Does anyone know a gunsmith that sells a Liberty Training Rifle Ruger 10/22 set up for Appleseed out of the box? I don't have the workshop or tools to so it myself. Plus I don't mind paying a little extra to get it done correctly. I used to change my own oil in my vehicles also but living in an apartment I can't do that anymore either.
 
Check on the Appleseedinfo.org forum in the section titled "Deals and steals". IIRC, there's a gunsmith somewhere in the Midwest who sells a 10/22-based LTR.
 
Stang - if you have a kitchen table or even just a lap, you have enough work space to modify your 10/22, tools may be another story but a simple pliers tool has enough to get most of the job done. As offered to others above, I'll help you out during your build - PM me if interested
 
Bummer, camping on the range was always great. Still a great shoot, though - perfect environment for someone who's never shot long distance before but really wants to try.
 
This is my first real post.

I am still a relative noob having been licensed for a little over 1 year. I have lurked on the site for awhile and have learned quite a bit. It is a great resource. Thanks to you all for that.

I started out w/ pistol but plan on doing an appleseed and am doing some of the recommended mods to a cheap 10 22 I picked up.

This brings me to my issue. I managed to get the rapidex knob on the tech sights, but the thing is very stiff to turn. Stiff to the point where I think it would be a real pain in the a** to use. I did put the spring and detent (my terminology may be off) pin in as it was with the stock knob (not sure what you call it) figuring that would be how the rapidex knob would click as I think it is supposed to. Am I not supposed to put the pin in? Any ideas?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, Hock2025. I have the Rapidex knob installed on one of my LTRs, and while it's stiff to turn, it's still doable.

Is it possible that you put the detent pin in the right way? IIRC, one end was flat and the other a bit rounded. Maybe you got it reversed?
 
I installed the Uncle Mike's swivel studs today. Rear stud went in fine. Kind of did a shitty job on the front stud unfortunately. I had to drill a very deep countersunk hole with my largest drill bit to get that nut in. The fit was damn tight and I ended up having to use a hammer and punch to seat the nut deep enough in order to engage the machine screw.

I am hoping this wont screw up accuracy or cause any negative issues down the road...

Long as it's tight in there and there's enough wood to keep you from pulling the nut through when you tighten up your sling I'd think you'll be all right.

However... if you are that worried about it... eBay is always a good place to get a cheap factory stock.
 
Can someone point me to a sling on maybe MidwayUSA that's the same style as this? Looks like shipments are a couple weeks out directly from the Appleseed store.

Posted some shots in the "show me your .22" thread here

tried to knock the front sight out with the barrel and receiver resting on a 2x4, that didn't work out so well (was denting the wood...)
went down to the basement with an old ripped pair of jeans, laid 'em down on the concrete floor, put the barrel on the jeans and bashed the tar out of the front sight (left to right, it was in there GOOD) came out in about 3 whacks....

took some work to knock the front sight in, i was more gentle... had the rifle wresting in my lap, covered the front sight with a layer of denim (to keep from marring it) and gave it some gentle persuasion (right to left) it actually went a bit passed the center line... i had to knock it back a bit, and it ended up slipping out! slid it back on, blue loctite on the threads, it's curing now.....
