I look at the delicate trigger safeties and wonder how they handle dirt and sand, as in a prone situation.
any experience?

Prone with a handgun? Really? And you also specifically reference the no thumb safety model.

Sand would have to really get in there to mess it up.

He's mentioning a handgun but doesn't the apex kit for a 10/22 have a trigger safety? Definitely can find them on some rifles, so the scenario is a bit valid.

There's been about a million torture tests done on a million different types and brands of pistols with trigger safeties in You Tube.

Its not usually the little trigger safety that gets fxcked up, its the the striker channel filled with mud, the disconnector filled with mud/sand, the mag, or feeding from mud/dirt in the slide.

they work fine. might have to shake em off a little.

you spend a lot of time prone with your hands on your gun?

If you don't, you should.

Maybe not "a lot" of time, but some.

When I read prone, I specifically thought of flat on your belly only rather than shooting under something or downed positions like you might do in IDPA.

I does really. With a handgun some roll up on one side a little but it's not necessary. The pic below.....is how I was trained to fire handgun on prone position.

I’ve shot prone with a handgun. I don’t know why you are so concerned about grit or sand. Are you going to be deliberately dragging your gun through the sand at the beach?

Glocks have been used by many military and law enforcement agencies in far worse conditions than you are ever likely to subject a handgun to.
