want to get a .22 rifle, and don't know witch one to get.

Depends on what you want it for. If not for hard-core target shooting, I concur with getting a 10/22. It's cheap, reliable, accurate, and has an amazing array of aftermarket products.

Like most people, I've got a few .22LR rifles and I agree the 10/22 is the way to go. Mine is stock with the exception of the new sights and an extended mag release (which is what's on the newer models anyway). Get the 10/22!

I just bought the 10/22 takedown, and love it. I put a cheap 3x9 scope on it, and bought some pre-ban 25 rd mags for it. All fits right in the nice bag that the takedown came with. For $300 and change, I think it cant be beat.

Cap has a point and it bears looking into - just something about a nice bolt gun.

Don't be afraid of buying used.

The Marlin 60 is another good option. The 10/22 is hard to beat for aftermarket parts - Caution: it can get expensive if you let it.

You kids and your semis. Pick up a savage, marlin, or cz bolt action.

I'm with Cap. You will never regret having a good bolt-action .22 like a CZ 452/453/455.

Bolt guns are nice, but when you're going for accuracy by volume cycling the bolt can get tiresome. BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, PING! Yes!!!

I've got a lever action that I LOVE, but the 10/22 has a lot more flexibility. And let's be honest, nobody is going to stop at one .22lr rifle anyway so the bolt/lever/AR-type one is just pushed down the road a hair.

Consider application........
plinking away, go with the 10/22.
Tacticool go with the M&P 15-22, i have one and love it (discussed in this thread the M&P vs GSG, i have mine pictured at the bottom of the thread)
Bolt action Savage is also a nice shooter.

Good points up here. I've got 3 10/22s, and while I think they're great rifles, my next .22 will probably be a 15-22. They're very reliable from what I've seen, and they're in the AR configuration - you can actually drop in any aftermarket AR trigger you want, and you can hang darn near any AR accessory on it you want. If you want your rifle to be like your AR, or even in the least bit "tacticool", the 15-22 is a great rifle.

If you want to build something from the ground up and have it configured exactly the way you want it, 10/22 is the way to go. You can literally build yourself a 10/22 and have NOT ONE Ruger part in it - there are at least two manufacturers making EVERY part you can put on a 10/22 including the receiver! (Volquartsen and NoDak Spud make 10/22 receivers; you need to get them transferred by an FFL since they're the serial numbered part. I have a feeling I'm leaving out a manufacturer, though...

Or you can just buy a basic 10/22 for about $220 and modify it yourself.

I have no experience with the GSG so I can't speak to it.

I have a 10/22 (Boyd's stock, Whistle Pig barrel, Mueller APV scope), Marlin 60 (bone stock), and M&P15-22 (Magpul AFG & rail covers, TruGlo 40mm red dot).

The M&P15-22 gets the most range time. I like the AR-15 style ergonomics, great accuracy, easiest mag changes of the 3, will accept most AR-15 accessories, and will run through mass quantities of bulk pack ammo all day without issue. It's also proven easier for new shooters to pick up and shoot, due to the simple nature of the AR-15 style controls.

I'd recommend getting all three; but if you're getting just one, I'd go for the M&P15-22.

I might be the only person in the world who's been collecting and shooting for over 12 years and has never owned a Ruger 10/22.

I have an old Springfield semiauto tube-fed .22 that is a sweet little rifle. Also have 2 bolt action single shot .22's, one of which is scoped and they are both accurate as hell.

Impulse buy time... Peer pressure!

My 10/22 is the most fun to shoot out of my whole collection. Everyone loves shooting it and it's extremely accurate and eats all ammo. You need one! And for $199, how can you go wrong. If you need a trigger job, I'm your man.

Pray tell of said trigger job ability... I must say though I found a neat stock online that turns a 10-22 into a m1 carbine, and fostech makes a nice bump fire stock for it, bit pricey bit why not FA .22 = cheap giggle inducing fun.

Dwarven, it's Tactical Solutions that you were trying to think of. One of the 10/22s that I brought to B&K a couple of months back had a TS receiver.

THESAW - I'd definitely recommend the TS barrels too if you are looking for something lightweight. I love the pair I'm running right now.

Aloha
