My Wife just passed the Tech exam. She put a lot of time into studying and taking the NARS online class this weekend. It wasn't easy for her as she doesn't have a technical background, but she was determined since attending numerous seminars at HamXposition (Boxboro) with me over the past few years. Needless to say, I'm very proud of her!

Tell her congrats from me. Now buy her a nice mobile radio. Jack W1FKG.
I just ordered her a Yaesu FT-4XR from MTC. I also told her that one of our Anytone AT-D868UV's will be hers (I have 2 of them). We have rigs in both cars and eventually I'll get my HF rig setup after trees get removed and antenna strung up, hopefully this Spring.

She says thanks to all of you.

I dont't think that the FCC issues call signs on Sunday evenings, when she tested.
And probably not on President's Day, either.
[angry]

Congrats K1DQI here.
I don't think so;
I just checked ULS and ULS Archives,
and this is what they returned.

She can use your call sign if you're there with her. Good practice. Jack.
Unless D. went straight to Amateur Extra
and she wants to operate on bands Len can't use.
[rofl2]

Congrats! I got my General and then have only been on once.
Someday when I have time I'll need a lot of Elmering to get up to speed. LOL
Do you commute to a job?

Cable a 2m/440 H/T to a mag-mount, screw on an antenna,
dangle the H/T from the rearview,
run it off the cigarette lighter,
and use a local repeater.

In no time you'll get pulled in to the local club,
and it's all downhill from there.

(There are cheaper packages to do that,
and I have no experience with that specific H/T
or knock-off cigarette lighter thingy
,
but it's the closest match to what I started with).

Well, first you'll probably get pulled over by the cops
who think you're using a cell phone behind the wheel.
But let that go.

But if you go with the 5" mag mount,
it won't fly off the car at 80MPH.
Unlike this one.

Thanks! I have a radio for the car and a wired in connection.
Just not much time to use it. But listening in is a great idea to get the hang of it.

Kc1dqi my bad. Lol. My dad is extra. I am just general
Perfectly understandable misteak.
I hope that you didn't hide under your bed after you realized what you had typoed.

So much the better. I was giving you the skinflint entry-level setup.

Note well:
The closest repeater to home(/work) ain't necessarily the best one to monitor
by a long shot. Some modestly more distant machine might be the one in a dozen
with a Very Healthy user community. I'm not saying it's a good investment of time
to be scanning dozens of machine like you were monitoring police/fire channels.
Rather, spend an hour or two until you find a machine with a lot of (ragchew) traffic.

At least the poor bastard stuck logging has a stylin' hat.
P. S. Thumbs up on the beer,
but if that's DEET-based insect repellent,
you don't want it, or anyone who has it on their hands,
anywhere near expensive electronics.

DEET melts plastic like the Lord's vengeance melts nazi faces.
