I am planning a cross country tour in a RV over a couple months.
I'd like to bring a rifle for protection. It has t be "politically correct" for the various states.
I was thinking of a lever 30/30 or 357-44Mag.
Any suggestions. Thanks

Might help if you tell people which States you will visit and will you be walking around with the rifle or keeping it inside?

I would not bring a rifle. Campers are too small. I would bring a handgun.

But if you want to larp, rifle + NV.

I asked that very same question recently - I'd say it came down to (for states not already CC or covered by reciprocity) just your basic 4 shot pump.

Your interpretation may vary

I bring my S&W FPC with 10rd magazines. Folds up nice and small, with 10 rd magazines I don’t have to worry about breaking any state laws. I also have a my M&P 9c so the magazines are compatible. I have a lock box for the handgun. I research every state I plan on passing through. No NRA or any firearms related stickers on my rv (class b camper van). Avoid sketchy places and people. Staying overnight in non campgrounds places (Cracker Barrel, Bass Pro or Cabela parking lots) I make sure there are at least a few other rv’s also staying there. Avoid staying at Walmarts overnight. Some still allow overnighting rv parking, but they tend to attract a sketchy crowd now.

A 357 revolver legal in all states, Filled with Hornady Critical Duty so you won't run afoul of places or laws like jorsey
Moss-berg shockwave or a Coach gun

If you want a lever action gun, get it in 357 as well. That way you won't need to stock two different calibers. The LA I had, in 357, was a 'carbine' length with a 16" barrel. Means it will be easier to store in the RV when not in use. Keep the wheel gun easily accessible, when you feel the need, and you should be OK.

If there are others going on the trip with you, I'd stick with 357 (or 38 special) ammo. Much lower recoil compared with 44 magnum (44 special isn't that more than 357).

I suppose, if you want to be able to blow someone's head clean off, go ahead with the 44 magnum.

I would bring a 357 revolver and 357 lever carbine. Probably a coach gun too for the trifecta. Can’t drive across the open west without protection from bandits so might as well do it in style

Oh yes, definitely bring or pickup some pump action along the way. I would also recommend magnum loads.
