Whats the best gun shop in the western MA area and why?

It may not be western MA but its close (Winchester NH), trader Johns gun shop has all calibers, it ain't cheap but at least its there, in fact its not just ammo the shop is stocked to the hilt! New Hampshire, its like another world up there!

Wow! I've never been there, I'll have to check it out. I have no luck finding any ammo around the Hadley down to West Springfield area whatsoever. How are they about MA residents buying ammo? Haven't bought anything out of state yet.

They will sell ammo/mags/accessories to anyone. If you bring back a prohibited mag back into Mass, you are breaking the law. They will sell Mass compliant firearms to Mass residents via FFL transfer.

I bought a 500 brick of .22lr for $42 at Trader Johns last Saturday. Which is about the same price with tax IF you find a brick of it at Dick's.
I believe they only have purchase limits on .22lr, (1) brick or (3) 50rds. Did not see any purchase limits on 9mm .38 .40 .45 .357 .223 7.62x39 or 7.62x51.
There ammo table in the middle of the store was stacked 2+ feet high.

I stop by there once a month. Less than a 15 minute ride from my house.

The new owner's gun-shop-website-in-a-can is useless, just like all the other shops listing items that are not in stock.

just checked out the site, and yeah, it needs some work, but i will give him some time since hes only been at it a week or so. the fact that the cart system is up but checkout is disabled, is weird, but i hope the inventory aspect of it is somewhat up to date.

On a side note, i was at my dentist office is in Agawam so i stopped at Guns & Gear for the first time. they open at 10, i was there at 10:05, the parking lot was full, as i walked in i passed three guys each carrying a Value Pack of Federal Champion .22 LR. i walk inside there's 6 boxes on the shelf, i grabbed one and looked around the shop. when i left the shop there was one left.

He told me that if you call them they will hold ammo for you until the end of that business day. and if you don't come for it, it goes back on the shelf in the morning. i said that was a a Cool policy. He said, he felt that was fair and if he didn't do it no one with a job would ever get any ammo.

I'll be back!

make sure to friend them on Facebook if you have an account. They post most of their ammo deliveries on their Facebook page. This morning they posted that 22 delivery, and 10 minutes later they posted it was all gone.

Yeah i did, but its not something i See, i have to try and get it to come up. i think i was still in the store when she posted teh sold out comment, I read it on my phone in the parking lot.

Let me guess looking for .22?[rofl]

No actually, but they had some.

Trader John's was great, they had EVERYTHING! I was amazed. I got .380 and .357 and then found .380 again at Dick's in Hadley oddly enough.

Thanks for the Trader John's recommendations folks, I'll be returning there when I need ammo.

Just want to share my experience this afternoon at personal defense specialists in south Hadley. For anyone looking for a good shop this is the place to be. I bought an sr45 for a great price from some great guys. Highly recommended and thanks again!

Are you even serious? If Springfield area is not "Western MA", then please tell us what region it is part of then.[rolleyes]

Western Mass starts when you cross the Connecticut River. The sign for Springfield should read "Last Ghetto in Massachusetts, next 5 Exits".

If you drive north and you end up in New Hampshire, that's not "western Mass."

If you drive north and you end up in Vermont, that's western Mass.

That was always my favorite shop. Sucked that Joe passed away, he was a great guy.

Speaking of western mass, I was out driving around last weekend in one of my sports cars and came across 2 different gun shops I never knew existed. One is Overwatch Outpost around Charlemont MA, and the other was Pete's gun shop out in Adams. I would have stopped in and said hi, except it was a Sunday and they were both closed. Overwatch is right in the middle of all the kayaking places and I will admit I have been by there a few times, and never noticed, but a sign in the parking lot said the word 'ammo' and that got my attention :). Anyone know anything about either of these 2?

H&S Firearms is a new place in Pittsfield. I haven't been to it yet but it seems like they're an appointment only kind of place, perhaps centered around transfers.

Hey, thanks!

I have to head down there and visit!

1) Saturday hours 11 to 2 according to the website.

B) That $935 used G26 made me gag, though. Perhaps the fellow who put it up just "wants what he wants..."
