So I've been drooling at the WO web sight lately and would love to buy the Squad
Designated Marksman Variant barrel in a 1:8 for $410 along with the BCG and then I
got to thinking that these eyes are never going to take advantage of this precision
w/o assistance. Then I ask myself why should I spend that kind of dough for it if it
is simply going to waste?

What other manufacturers offer a 20" 1:8 barrel that might do the trick for a few
dollars less. Never mind lead times as everyone has gawd awful lead times but I
want to finish up my NES lower rifle at some point so I want to get something on
order now, even if I can't afford it! [smile]

It's the fluting that drives up the price of the SDM barrel. Unless you are going to carry it, just order a CMP barrel. Same thing without the flutes and probably a little more accurate.

That's what I did. If I ever get a bcg for it, I'll let you know how it works!

The finish on the barrel is perfect by the way, very nice.

After shooting KMM696's White Oak equipped rifle this afternoon, I can only conclude one thing Patriot: God wants you to have a White Oak barrel. That gun is a friggin laser beam. It does not matter that your eyes won't fully realize the potential - you deserve the best.....[cheers]

There are a lot of good barrels out there. I have had good luck with DPMS and Wilson. Both delivered 2.25 in five shot groups at 300 yds. Both barrels cost a little over $200.

I've heard good things about the DPMS barrels also. If you have a C&R FFL you could get them from Midway for something ridiculously inexpensive like ~ $140 a year or two ago. Not sure what they are going for now.

Besides the fun of shooting a rifle where I know it's more accurate than I am?

I've got a WOA 24" varmint barrel on my NES AR. Besides the accuracy, and the finish work, and the fit, and the bolt I bought from them that the barrel was headspaced to, the biggest advantage of buying from WOA is their control over their own backlog. They are starting with a barrel blank from whoever their supplier is, cutting whatever contour, length, fluting or threading needed, chambering, installing the barrel extension - all of which happens in house. So, when they give you a time estimate on your barrel it is not subject to the whim of RRA/DPMS/whoever, but based on how long it will take their shop. As long as they can keep getting high end barrel blanks and barrel extensions, they should be able to hit their shipping dates.

Oh, and their modified RRA NM triggers are really nice, too. And I've been thinking of having them build me a DMR barrel in 6x45, which means I need another trigger.....Yeah, I'll order from them again.

If it's branded as a White Oak barrel, then they are Wilson blanks but I believe that Frank White at CLE is doing the contouring and clambering since he has a CNC lathe. If you get a White Oak Precision barrel, then John is doing the the metal work. From John's website.

I think you are right that he tries to be accurate in his estimates. He is a regular HP shooter and I don't think he wants unhappy customers chewing on his ear out at Camp Perry.

And if you don't want to wait forever for a White Oak barrel, Compass Lake is an excellent option as well.

I did it! Damn you Mark for contributing to my delinquency! [smile] [party]

WO CMP barrel with BCG and furniture. (~20 week to ship). Mark, once I
get my sales order I will PM you with a couple of questions I have from the
ordering process.

You can thank me later with some trigger time...[smile] Besides, it was KMM696's WOA that hopped me up yesterday - that pup hits where you point it. His rifle was sighted in for 200 and for his eyes and lefty status. Even still at 100-yards, I could drift the bullets right where I wanted them. I can't remember how small the blocks are on a DirtyBird sighting target, but suffice it to say, 3 of 5 bullets struck the same cube at 100-yards...The other two landed just outside, because I got all happy and screwed up my last two shots. I want one....

I'm sure you'll like it.

If not, let me know and I'll be more than willing to take it off your hands!!
