Cool! Did Bannerman make any mods to the 1868 or is it just known to have been sourced from Bannerman?Made it out this afternoon with my 1868 Springfield Bannerman special in 50-70. I am Still working on loads for this as well. I may have to make a taller front sight or just aim at the bottom of the target.
Bannerman the CIA of its time.It just appears to be assembled from parts. I’m just assuming bannerman. The barrel is the oddest part. It’s a sleeved musket barrel with 1864 type 2 rear sight. The sights placement appears to be way forward of we’re they usually get installed
They supplied cheap guns to sketchy regimes here and there, correct?Bannerman the CIA of its time.
Guns, cannons, gear and I think a few ships. Anythig government surplus foreign and domestic. They supplied cheap guns to sketchy regimes here and there, correct?
Well they where around in the late 1880s so im sure there where less “laws” then on selling Guns especially if it was sold as “scrap”They supplied cheap guns to sketchy regimes here and there, correct?
You sure thats not a mosin , lolSo today I made it to the range again. Temperature 29˚ not much if any wind and snow on the ground. Brought out my Husquavarna M-38 Swedish Mauser and Quality Hardware M1 carbine...Remembered after my groups went to shit how PPU's 139gr FMJBT performed last winter. I should have made up some more reloads or brought a box of PPU Match ammo...I thought it settled down after the first target and the first 5 shots on the second kinda bore this out. Then I was all over the place. Must be the barrel heats up and goes nuts? The second five I wasn't able to call at all, they went everywhere. So here are some pics...
Shot from a front rest...
Great shooting! Both rifles...I was able to get out this past Saturday afternoon. I took 2 rifles that are new to the Winter Warrior match, both in 8mm Mauser. I was shooting some handloads for both....170gr Speer Hot-Cors over IMR4064.
First up was my 1906 Oberndorf Gew98m.
Target 1 - 95-4x
I was getting sighted in here. First few shots hit left, then low so I had to adjust my POA

Target 2 - 99-4x
This thing can flatout shoot if I do my part....it's right up there with my K31. The group could've been a little tighter if I didn't yank one down and to the left.

I think it's time for a little research to make these shoot better. Has to be the barrel getting warm and wandering. I have never seen a rifle go south that fast before. 5 shots then ??!You sure thats not a mosin , lol
Im sure all the “mauser” mods will apply.I think it's time for a little research to make these shoot better. Has to be the barrel getting warm and wandering. I have never seen a rifle go south that fast before. 5 shots then ??!
I have a book somewhere on the Swedes. May try and find torque spec/procedure and try other handloads? I have two M-96 and the single M-38...![]()
Some pictures might not be there anymoreHad it apart last night. Im pretty ignorant of the mauser mods. The barrel bands are pretty snug, I think. Was thinking the (PPU factory) ammo and making some careful reloads with IMR-4350. Guess I need to do some research and go back in before shooting it again...thanks.
T hooked me up with that when I first got my 98k.My friend authored that,

Sweet ,Got out this morning , snowshoe in as the club hadn't been plowed yet. Shot 293 with a M39 Finn . Cast boolit and 2400 ,,, prone in the snow with racquettes for a rest ,, going to run it again , it was shooting better than me! Fired a three cat sneeze loads at 20 yards kneeling, the same sight setting, a little 90 grain cast over 3 grains of Bullseye! Love this rifle !!View attachment 571324 View attachment 571323View attachment 571326
