I am a MA resident with my LTC-A no restrictions and was gonna be taking 2 of my unlicensed cohorts up to MFL on saturday (yes I know to get there EARLY).

However, I have a friend in the plaistow/sandown area that had mentioned that anytime he went shooting, he would just go to a sandpit in the area that everybody knew about.

All I'm looking to do is save money, and maybe not get up so early. I am very well versed in handgun safety and would insist on ear/eye protection, as well as supervising their every move. These are my two best friends and know that shooting is serious, but can also be serious fun!

So does anybody know of a public, outdoor, free manner in which we can legally shoot in beautiful, free NH?

A: Per state law (RSAs 207:3-a, 207:3-c, and 644:13), you may not shoot across or within 15 feet of a road, or “within 300 feet of a permanently occupied dwelling without permission of the owner or the occupant of the dwelling or from the owner of the land on which the person discharging the firearm or shooting the bow and arrow is situated.”

You also may not discharge a firearm within the “compact part of a town or city,” defined as “the territory within a town or city comprised of the following:

(a) Any nonresidential, commercial building, including, but not limited to, industrial, educational, or medical buildings, plus a perimeter 300 feet wide around all such buildings without permission of the owner.

(b) Any park, playground, or other outdoor public gathering place designated by the legislative body of the city or town.

(c) Any contiguous area containing 6 or more buildings which are used as either part-time or permanent dwellings and the spaces between them where each such building is within 300 feet of at least one of the others, plus a perimeter 300 feet wide around all the buildings in such area.”

Further, it’s just common sense and courtesy to ask permission of the landowner to shoot on private property, even if there is no “permanently occupied dwelling” within 300 feet.
Check town websites for the town you are looking to go shooting in, They may have a map showing conservation land. I realize the info isn't always easy to find but there may be something out there.

I know of a few areas that I shoot at that are similar to what you are looking for. No offense to anyone, but I will not publicly post any info on them. If you want to know where, PM me.

Also, as I am still a Seabrook, NH resident, I can use their shooting range, which is essentially a sand pit. If you ever want to go with me, send me a PM and I can arrange something. It was closed for a bit, but it should be open again or will be soon. The only problem is it's on first come first serve basis and I have to get the key at the PD, so I usually try to get it early and spend some time there. If you want to meet me there, just call me when you arrive and I will open the gate.

As for the other spots, they are open to anyone, you just need to know how to get there. I will show you, or I may give you directions, either way they are really good spots. I expect you not to post their location, as I want to maintain my ability to use them. I am also working on getting in touch with another land owner, as he owns a large pit with an area that would make an excellent 250-300yd range.

PM me for info. I would like to accompany you on your first visit, nothing personal, just how it works. I will go most any day you would like, just give me some notice.

I heard about a public sandpit in Orford, NH but no further details on it.... I wouldn't mind checking it out. Anybody ever heard of this place or have any more info?
