Anyone go to Jimmy's Jazz and Blues Club in Portsmouth?

My wife and I want to go to a couple of evening shows there, and we've never been. Problem is they have a "no guns" policy. I'm 69 and my wife is 70, and frankly, at this age I don't feel comfortable walking around even a small city at 11 o'clock at night unarmed, especially with her with me. Just wondering if anyone goes there, what's the area like late at night, police presence, etc. I appreciate any insight.
