Let me preface by saying I am not savy with the AR at all. Ive had this for a few years and only shoot in once in a while. It is a stag AR and I bought it in 2008.

Since day 1 I noticed I would get a lot of light primer strikes. This would only happen with 556 ammo and not the 223. Today I finally decided to look into the cause and after some research a lot of people mention trigger springs put in backwards. I bought the lower seperate from the upper, but I assumed it was a complete lower straight from STAG. Anyways, looking at this pictures I think the trigger spring might be in backwards??

Thanks in advance for the help...

atilla, but see that picture i believe is different.... In your picture the long end of the spring is coming from the bottom of the coil.... in mine it is coming from the top...

Also, I believe I mean Hammer spring not trigger spring..

pop the pins out and put that beeyatch in the right way! also check the firing pin for good measure.

lol ya looks like I will have to do that... is it simple to do? I just looked at a youtube video and mine is definitely backwards and would be the reason why I get FTF on 556 ammo but not 223.

Kinda pisses me off that I bought it that way.

i see what you mean with the spring now, too--upside-down, not flipped around. i was staring at it like "is he SURE?! looks like it's pointing the correct direction to me!" [laugh]

let us know how it shoots.

See here at AR15.com for the play by play to assemble your lower and upper. Lots of pictures to help you do it right and fix that upside/down spring.

Built 3 full rifles flawlessly using these instructions. One more complete lower from the NES group buy is also on the way with this instructions.

Shot about 100 rounds of 556 and another 100 of 223 today without a single issue. Glad I got it figured out and fixed. Still disappointed it was sold to me built incorrectly, but all is well now.

That's good. Your pic clearly showed the hammer spring in backwards. Now that's straightened out, keep up the shooting!

Where did you buy it? (I'm hoping / guessing private sale and not from Stag directly.)

eh, dont exactly want to call the guy out, because Im just assuming he built it and it did not come from stag complete... but it was a place in springfield that has since changed names but I believe is still the same guy. I honestly cant even remember what the name was at the time
