Looking good! Are you planting in furrows?
They are a sort of raised bed as pulled up the soil where the path in between is. It seems to work well.

Kinda looks like the beginning of slime mold colony. (AKA "Dog Vomit")First time I've seen something like this. Plant seems to be healthy, has maters and flowers. Was pruning up a bit when I found the 'mess'.

Mycorrhizal fungi perhaps? Good stuff btw.First time I've seen something like this. Plant seems to be healthy, has maters and flowers. Was pruning up a bit when I found the 'mess'.

That stuff is crazy. Its neither fungus, mold, bacteria, animal... it has its own classification. And can move.Kinda looks like the beginning of slime mold colony. (AKA "Dog Vomit")

The article was about the slime mold being in Louisiana at the time of the article (2020), but it is not limited to that area. I'm not sure what you have, but some of itsInteresting article. Not in Lousiana nor is my soil overly damp (the top 2", at least). I'll keep an eye on it and provide an update as to whether it spreads or dies off.
Do you let them head up or harvest when theyre more leafy?Red Iceberg lettuce doing well. This will be great on burgers on Independence Day along with homemade potato salad and pickles canned from last year
I've had no luck with the broccoli last year due to what i think are a number of reasons but im thinking of trying the sprouting broccoli next year as its supposed to be super easyI was starting to think nothing was going to grow out of this plant but then I to take a double look tonight when I saw that actually I'm able to grow broccoli!

After you pick the head of broccoli the plant will produce smaller side shoots after some time. I use to think one and done, just be patient and you’ll get more.I was starting to think nothing was going to grow out of this plant but then I to take a double look tonight when I saw that actually I'm able to grow broccoli!

So how do you know when to harvest? After you pick the head of broccoli the plant will produce smaller side shoots after some time. I use to think one and done, just be patient and you’ll get more.
You want to get it before it bolts/flowers and before aphids destroy it. So you can let it get as big as you want but it gets more risky as it gets hotter, imo.So how do you know when to harvest?
For some reason I never thought I was going to get anything this year besides tomatoes.

I don't remember planting this in the garden.
Some seeds need a period of cold before they will germinate. Think dropping seeds in fall, sitting there all winter and sprouting in spring.Has anyone here tried growing Hops? I got a packet and it has some weird directions about putting the seeds in the fridge for 3 months in sand and then planting them outside in dirt.
Do you think I can still try this season in peat pods? Some seeds need a period of cold before they will germinate. Think dropping seeds in fall, sitting there all winter and sprouting in spring.
The fridge acts like winter.
Also it grows very fast and tall. You’re a little late.
Short answer is no.Do you think I can still try this season in peat pods?
Looks real good man. Why no mulch?Definitely coming together now. Getting lots of peas in which my 4yo loves. He just wanders down and eats them from time to time. Have also been getting 1-2 cukes a day. My 2yo loves to find those. And my 4yo also ate one of those whole while hanging out in the garden yesterday. I started those cukes way too early and was really worried about them but they seem to be taking now. Already ate one round of radishes and the second is almost ready. Tons of basil and cilantro that is already bolting, but some more planted that should be ready in a couple weeks. More lettuce and arugula than I could eat. Spinach all pulled blanched and frozen yesterday. Carrots look great. Tomatoes are huge. Peppers are starting to look good. Eggplants don’t look good but are starting to flower. Things seemed to come together just right for me so far.
I found you can also use the freezer for cold strat in just a few days. Didnt track germination rates but seemed to work. Some seeds need a period of cold before they will germinate. Think dropping seeds in fall, sitting there all winter and sprouting in spring.

Just be careful to make sure they can handle freezing temperatures. Some seeds that require stratification can only handle the fridge.I found you can also use the freezer for cold strat in just a few days. Didnt track germination rates but seemed to work.

I bought some straw to use as mulch but then got scared it might have some kind of chemicals on it. And since it has been so dry weeds have been almost nonexistent so I guess it just hasn’t been an issue. The drip irrigation keeps it moist under the surface but let’s it get crusty on top.Looks real good man. Why no mulch?
You should be worried about blight.I bought some straw to use as mulch but then got scared it might have some kind of chemicals on it. Yes, cabbages will do the same, with sometimes 3-4 smaller heads growing out of the initial main plant that has been cut off. After you pick the head of broccoli the plant will produce smaller side shoots after some time. I use to think one and done, just be patient and you’ll get more.
