Bullet Casting & Coating MegaThread

During lubing the plunger in my RCBS LAM2 came off the bolt and was stuck at the bottom of the luber. I ended up cranking the heat, cleaning out old lube, and jamming a wood dowel that I was lucky enough to get threaded on the plunger. We managed to load up a few hundred more.

Ok guys. first of all I know nothing about casting. I've looking for jacketed .475 projectiles with on luck.
I just picked up a 475 wildey. cant use lead. Is there some sort of a real hard coating that can be used?
I would try to get your hands on some coated bullets.
Get on CastBoolits forum and ask those guys if someone can send you some hi-tek coated or some powder coated. Better yet some of each.

Or if you buy a mould and find a local that casts and coats. Maybe you can try before you jump in.

What’s the issue with cast? Leading up with the gas system?

yes thats my thought. The gas system. I really dont want to get into casting but thought i could buy the mold and have someone do it. maybe 100 or so is all I would need

Found these. Would these work? Or can they be filled with lead?

Probably super expensive.

Check this thread. Last post says it all.
There are tons of other threads on there for wildeys. Get casting! Sign up for the seminar in October.

Make those bullets for almost free

OK so i've read that you can shoot hard cast through the wildey. Does anyone here do that. And what is the difference?
Theres really no reason you cant run cast in the widely.
If your pushing max velocity/pressure you might need a gas check , I don’t know much about the big bore pistols other than it can be a bit of a pain to find the right bullet profile so it Chambers correctly

Heck, I don’t think you need to worry about hard alloy ??

Awesome score. What’s the weight?
I think I may have found the cause of my 9mm leading. @pastera got me thinking and I measured my diameters as the bullet progressed through my press. All was good till I got to the crimp die… found the squeeze to be down to .350. I adjusted and now I’m back to testing.
Common issue with 9mm. Crimp just enough to remove the bell.
You’ll be shitting I’m high cotton when that’s done.
