they are looking forand $ to fight healy.
looks like the 2026 question on repealing gun law made it already.
there is an article in the boston herald this morning on it.

is this legit?
Is GOAL involved?
Should we all sign up and send money???

www.thecivilrightscoalition.com is driving the 2026 ballot question.
challenge is to get 1.5M voters to vote the repeal
starting point is 600,000 licensed firearm owners
add another 600,000 significant others of the firearm owners
challenge, getting 500,000+ non firearm owners to vote the repeal, from a perspective of civil rights infringement/denial

yes, the civil rights coalition and goal share plans often to complement each others efforts
goal, focused on legislation ; jim has made several posts here in NES on the GOAL legal efforts
and www.goal.org/gunban is a common source of info for those coming up to speed on the breadth of the Chapter 135 ...and several informative threads here in NES Forum on how Chapter 135 affects what one has in their possession.

There is just a lot of fail happening here, IMHO. First putting it on the ballot at all.... where it is destined to lose in MA, adding legitimacy to the law. Second, putting it on the ballot during the mid term election cycle.... when the party in power always loses seats as the opposition is more motivated.... So which party is going to have more people come to the polls when it's on the ballot...

It seems like ZERO thought was put into this, and it's going to do more harm than good. We should be fighting in the courts of law, not public opinion.... in MA, that just won't end well.

I think the intent was to place the changes to the law on hold during the initiative process while hoping for a USSC decision voiding much of it. Why no one seems to have thought that Healey would go "emergency preamble" on it is beyond me.

Thinking that this is a process to follow as the law goes through the legal process. Take away any reason the courts could push back by saying why don’t you challenge it as a ballot initiative.

The bill was signed in late July (the 26th I believe). At the time no "emergency preamble" was contemplated. The law was scheduled to go into effect 3 months later, October 26th. The petition drive to suspend the law and put it up for a vote started immediately after the July 26th signing. When the signatures were verified and it became clear that the law would be suspended until 2026 the governor panicked and signed the "emergency preamble" in early October which enacted the law immediately.
Any judge with a sense of fairness would look at this scenario and question why the emergency preamble wasn't signed immediately. It was only signed after a democratic process where enough citizens petitioned the government to suspend what they believed to be an unjust law. If I were a judge I would tell the commonwealth "if this was an emergency you would have signed the preamble when you signed the bill into law. Based on the timing it wasn't an emergency. You waited for over 2 months to use your emergency preamble powers. You are simply now using your preamble to circumvent the will of the voters. I am therefore nullifying your emergency preamble and the law is suspended until it can be voted on by the people."

This topic had a lot of air time here on NES.

Should really be appealing to people’s fears. Like how the bad orange man is president and all his fascist supporters are already armed and this law makes it hard for people to defend themselves.

That's why you're not a judge. ;)

you're kidding, right? this is the ballot initiative/signature drive that everyone was on about. you know, the one that was going to delay the law, until she signed the post-hoc emergency preamble?

It'll be awesome to watch that initiative fail at teh ballot box. :(

The only chance is to pull a 1980's "repeal-the-seatbelt-law" type campaign that Big Maura is trying to take your rights away from you. Now THAT would be funny.

mASS was the only state to REPEAL a seatbelt law that made it the technical LAST state to implement one.
