Deals and steals

I'm just looking for a basic disconnect/isolator , so I can feed my whole panel. Any ideas?
I just put in an outlet on it's own breaker, built a suicide cable, and remembered not to turn on the outlet while the main was on. Half a dozen uses over about 6 years, and no problem. But I do not recommend this.

In my old house I had a 30 amp generator plug outside with an interlock on the panel. I used a Honda 2200 generator and a 5-15 to L14-30 adapter plug, it powered everything in the panel as long as I didn’t use any high draw appliances (turned off their breakers). I was surprised it was able to easily handle two fridges, a chest freezer, all the LED lights, boiler with Taco pump, internet/TV, but the average load was only ~650 watts according to the generator app. All my heat was gas forced hot water and my range was gas, so not much load. I had a 7K generator if needed, but the Honda ran 11 hours on 1.1 gallons of gas and didn’t keep the neighbors awake, the 7K was using about 7 gallons per day and echoed throughout the neighborhood.

When I decided on the 10 circuit manual transfer switch I had a 5K generator. I now have a 10K generator and I am seriously considering an interlock. [thumbsup]
Don't know why you wouldn't with any size genset (5000W or larger) as long as you have a brain enough not to overload the genset.....its much better than having dedicated circuits only.

When I had my house the well pump only ran when we used water and used up two circuits on the 6 circuit panel. I could have ran a lot more stuff and just shut the well pump off and used it when I needed it only.

We had to do that in fl

Fill the tank...shut off the pump turn the ac back on... they wouldnt run at the same time

I don't even bother with a gen in FL....I have no idea what it would take to run my Central AC....alot I think......at least 10K. Toyed with the idea of buying a 13K, but really don't feel like taking the room in the garage. And the next house will have a whole house unit automatic standby.

We have water in most cases even if power is off, and we are on the emergency shelter line, which is priority.

Lost power for 3 hours total during all these hurricanes total this year.

I sold my old .......and I mean old..... genset to the new owner of my house.

I have 2 of those ez switches on circuits, even with an auto transfer switch from the main whole house genny. Why? Because the main genny could quit and I can power up the fridge and burner with a portable generator. Get them installed!

I have an interlock for the main panel with a full size portable genny to run most of the house, but I also had @Palladin put in one of these ez switches on my furnace circuit so I can power my furnace off my ecoflow battery generator silently overnight.

So this was the PA deal on an upper for Black Friday.

A Troy Industries billet upper for $29.99

It is a cool looking design, but there are some clear issues with the finish.
A number of small chips in one area that are ragged and expose raw aluminum, and in a couple spots a thin finish on leading edges.

It was not advertised as a "blem" but that is kind of what it looks like.

Still, for $30 bucks I am not crying too hard, but I certainly would not pay the $115 they currently have it listed for. Matter of fact I would not buy another at all unless I was getting it for that same price of $30.

Should also note that there are holes for the hinge of some form of non-standard dust cover, but obviously there is none, which is okay as I have another upper of this fashion and it is fine without it. I don't plan on dragging it through the mud.

Not cool, mine didn't come with a pin! Although, I got it at the $100 sale price a couple months back. The Pinty Club is way cooler than the Sig Legion Club, not sure how I'm going to display my membership status when I go to the secret meetings.

Also, since this is a Deals & Steals thread, this is currently on sale for those interested:
